Branch Operations Manager was asked...October 4, 2015

He asked me two questions, they were both about how I would fix a branch with low morale and engagement.

1 Answers

I said I would interview each employee and get a feel for all the dynamics, start with the low-hanging fruit and see if the employees have any suggestions for improvement, and then manage accordingly from there. He didn't like that I wanted to ask the employees for improvement ideas because that was "my job" and he suggested I may have to "fire everyone and clean house". Less

Employee opening accounts for clients that did not request them or understand what they were doing in the acct opening process. I addressed it with that employee and reviewed the account opening guidelines and ethics. Informed them of the process that would be instantly instituted if a this practice did not stop immediately. It did not happen again. Less

Working my way up the ladder.

In 5 years I would still like to be in the East Bay working with afterschool programs as well as with kids in small groups especially with literacy intervention. I would like to gain more skills so I can move more into a supervisorial/mentoring role Less

I plan to continue in the field of education with small groups and afterschool programming particularly with elementary youth in literacy intervention and want to become skilled enough to mentor new teachers Less

What do you think are the negative aspects of my personality?

3 Answers

I talk to my staff asking them what they see is the need for change and their suggestion for the change. I take it under advisement, and when a decision is made, ask them to please give the change a chance to work before dismissing it. I have found that this works well, and allows the changes a fighting chance to work. If they don't work, at least they had a fair opportunity to work before being discarded. Less

I am a bit of a workaholic. I don't have a clock in my head, and will work late into the night if left to my own devices. I also do not know when to stop once I am buried in a project. I need my staff to tell me when it is quitting time or when to stop, or I may work them to death. Less

I think that the aspects of your position require you to be very demanding of your staff, however I feel that you probably communicate those needs in a manner that is not harsh or demeaning. Less
