ALSTOM

It was a mock situation involving problems with a project team's performance and the customer's constant changing requirements. Basically, how would you handle yourself , and what would you contribute to solve the internal and external issues.

1 Answers

It was difficult to be specific due to the relatively confusing organization structure. It was not clear who is the true leader in the mock situation, so a number of assumptions needed to be stated. Once I articulated those assumptions, then I could utilize my stronger more developed skills to drive resolution of the commercial and contractual issues. Once I described how to solve those issues, you could then be more specific on what to ask of the different functions so that the project team had all of the information required to solve the project and customer issues. A windowless room contains three identical light fixtures, each containing an identical light bulb or light globe. Each light is connected to one of three switches outside of the room. Each bulb is switched off at present. You are outside the room, and the door is closed. You have one, and only one, opportunity to flip any of the external switches. After this, you can go into the room and look at the lights, but you may not touch the switches again. How can you tell which switch goes to which light? (Copy and pasted from somewhere but this and the answer are correct)

I liked the answer provided above, checking the lights' bulbs, but in case that you can't touch the switches after 10 min, then I will propose the following: turn 2 switches on. Go to the room. You have one switch off and one light off. So these two are a pair. From the two switches on and the two lights on, ask somebody else to turn off one switch. Then you can establish the connection between one switch and one of the on lights. The third match would be the remaining switch and light. I would say that the instructions never said that you can ask for somebody elses help. What is not prohibited is allowed. Less

This can’t be the answer as the initial situation stated you can’t touch the switches a second time. Less

Turn two switches ON, and left one switch OFF. Wait 10 minutes. Then shut one of the ON switches OFF. One switch is ON and two are now OFF. Immediately go into the room. If the light is on, you know it's the switch that is still ON. If the light is off, feel the light bulb. If the bulb is cold, it's the light switch that you never turned ON. If the bulb is still warm but the light is off, it's the switch you turned ON but then turned OFF prior to entering the room. Less
