I am not a confrontational person because I believe all disagreements can be resolved with open communication in a judgement-free environment. Starting out as a new therapist, I had to learn to delegate tasks based on people’s strengths. In the past I’ve had COTAs with differing communication styles that needed more guidance. At first I decided to take care of obstacles on my own, which hurt my productivity and gave the COTAs less confidence in themselves. I learned to kindly and assertively delegated tasks and utilized positive reinforcement and gratitude as a motivator to help my assistants that rely on more guidance to gain confidence in themselves. This has also helped to reduce future conflicts that can arise when one person feels like he or she is contributing more time and effort than others. Less
