Are you comfortable working with transgender people?

This was asked in my second interview. I answered that I was. However, I was obviously a transgender person myself, and my resume showed several volunteer activities involving working with transgender people, including one for which I was a speaker as a transgender person. This led me to suspect that either the department head had not read my resume, or I was being asked a question they have to ask everyone, but without any concession to how that question would be received differently for some (my) demographic. Taken together with my prompt to describe my experience with a demographic to which my interview partner belonged, I concluded HealthRIGHT 360 was not particularly sensitive in how it approached diversity issues, and that this agency would not be a good fit for me. How did you answer this question? (Optional) I gave my answer by explaining my previous positions which showed that I had no discrimination or judgmental thinking in the past or present towards people of other genders, races or religious affiliation. Less

If we were to tell you that the second interview was you coming in to run a 2 hour group with DV male perpetrators, supervised, without assistance, without material, and with real clients, would you do it?

I asked if I was able to bring my own material. They laughed and said yes, but only if they could keep a copy... I stated that I would be comfortable conducting the second interview this way. It was extremely weird. Less
