last year when I was working in an afterschool program I had to become lead teacher when the current lead teacher left. I started setting up chairs in the back for corner time when students misbehaved. I changed the area they lined up to leave class so they wouldn't play with computer materials. I created a positive reinforcement system where students received stars if they followed rules. If they started the day with a star and weren't following rules, I would tell them the star is dependent upon getting their work done. If they get the work done there's a star if not no star. If the class as a whole received 10 stars per week, they had a Fun Friday. If it was a bad week, there was no Fun Friday.
if students got in fights, I would separate them away from other students in a corner in the back and talk to each separately about what happened. I began asking if they could have handled it better. I would leave them in the corner for another minute to think about their behavior and ask what they would do differently next time.
During my years of one to one tutoring, I have worked with students who showed signs of learning disabilities. I helped one mother find a therapist for her son. I helped another family fill paperwork to request an evaluation for their son. I currently substitute as a para educator where I work with kids on educational activities to promote learning
