Librarian i interview questions shared by candidates
Expect these questions: 1) The deputy mayor visits your branch, and observes a patron watching porn on a library computer. S/he wants this activity stopped. How do you handle it. (n.b. internet policy including filtering is posted on the library website.) 2) Tell us about a difficult work situation and how you handled it. If a similar situation arose again, what would you do differently?
1) Internet access is NOT filtered except for illegal activity (e.g. child porn) in the library. 2) Find a situation where you were able to quickly adapt and remain effective.
Library job interview questions always seem to include: "If you were working the reference desk and had a customer on the phone, three in line, and a child has a homework question, who do you help first?" or something similar.
Briefly tell us about your background & experience as it relates to being a librarian with LAPL. Is there any position you would not accept if offered? Tell us about a time when you had to explain a library policy to an unhappy patron. Tell us about a time you had to deal with a difficult/unruly patron. How will you reach out to your target audience to increase program attendance? Is there anything you would like to add to help us further to evaluate you as a candidate?
