Sales Executive Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Chicago, IL
Declined Offer
Neutral Experience
Easy Interview

Application

I applied online. I interviewed at marcus evans (Chicago, IL) in June 2017.

Interview

This was my first in-person interview, so it was more of an information session, where the interviewer explained in detail the project cycle and what his daily duties entail. Occasionally the interviewer asked me to basically regurgitate what he just said to assess my understanding of his description. Ended with a very detailed explanation of the pay and advancement process in the company.

    Interview

quite old fashioned questions were obviously prepared without a flow just for the sake to be asked .No clear description of a job title itself as well as day to day responsibilities. No clear explanation of salry and renumeration package.

    Interview

Was called by the internal recruiter saying the Director of the Division asked that he call me, we set up a time for the Director to call me for an initial phone screen, had the phone call at a later date, went in for one on one interview, had this small research assignment to do, emailed to get me in for a secondary interview, had 2nd in person interview with a member of senior management, was offered the position a few days later.

    Interview

Professional interview setting asking about prior experience. Was also asked what I am looking for in a career and what I wouldn't like in a career. Interviewer was aware of all internet reviews, especially on this site. Was able to effectively challenge each negative statement and made it seem as if the ones who are not good at selling or have bad work ethic do not make it. Just received call back for second interview with a different manager.

    Interview

The interview is really a sales job selling you on the company and opportunity disguised as an interview. I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what you say, as long as you seem somewhat competent, you will get the position.

    Interview Questions

    • Didn't really ask tough questions. Mostly about past experience and if I think I can do this job and why/   Answer Question

    Negotiation

didn't negotiate base pay, but heard someone else was able to double it through negotiating

    Interview

Found job posting online for account executive position in the Chicago area. Talked on the phone with HR and then had an in person interview with sales manager. First half of the in person interview was behavioral based interview questions and the second part was understanding position. They handed me a packet of the job position, company culture, etc... and went into great detail so I had absolutely no questions at the end. I heard back from them a couple days later to do my second in person interview. The homework for this interview was to find 10 people to sell their product too (seats for a conference).

    Interview

I found the company while applying for jobs on Linked In. I had applied and interviewed with other companies for "account executive" positions and most turned out to be low paying, commission only jobs, so I was a bit wary. The description did say "salary and commission" so, I thought this company would be different. In the end, I was wrong.

I heard back from the recruiter about 2 or 3 days after I had posted my resume and we did a phone interview that lasted about 20 minutes. After our conversation, he asked me to participate in a second phone interview to be done 2 days later. The second phone interview was a little more involved. He asked questions like: "What is your ideal salary?" and "How are you with rejection?" After I answered his questions he invited me to do a face-to-face interview.

About 3 days later, I went to their office and met with one of their sales managers. He was a nice guy and was very welcoming. He asked me general sales questions and told me a little bit about the company and the goals for sales executives. While you may only have to get 3 sales a week, you have to keep in mind you are selling tickets to upper executive conferences (1 ticket runs about $3,000). He also threw in a few left field questions such as: "tell me a joke or funny story" and "what is 48+23+12?" They ask you these to find out how quick you are on your feet.

After the interview, he told me they would be in touch in the next couple of days if I got the job. Even though they never called, I would not have accepted because of the low base pay and high focus on a very difficult commission.

    Interview

Fun, light and informative. It was a bit of a shock at first due to the open air office environment. I was expecting at least cubicles, but ultimately it led to better team chemistry. We were all able to feed off of one another. The management team was very professional and had done a fair amount of due diligence on me (as i had on them) before the interview process which i appreciated. After the initial phone screen i met face to face with the hiring manager and some of his associates.
