I went Large Bank, so Pittsburgh/Monroeville for me. I already live here, so I'm hoping it's an "unattractive" destination for others. Haha

It is said people who passed the tests will at least get a phone interview, sounds like survivor bias to me but it’s time to brush up interview questions!

I think it makes sense that they wouldn't allow it. The location you'd be invited to for CED would be different between two different districts. One district wouldn't be able to make an employment decision for another district. With that said, it would be nice if the rules were clearer from the beginning to give people more of a chance. I found some of this process to be arduous... Though I suppose the most difficult parts are still to come. :)

I agree with you that you should not be able to make 2 selections across different districts if they are not prepared internally. That is not fair for candidates who are not familiar with the organizational structure of OCC. But one of major requirements of this position is traveling and relocating, so I guess we all need to be prepare to be assigned to where ever we are needed. There are plenty of opportunities to move around when we get in, so I am not to frustrated about it, I will be comfortable where ever as long as my family is happy and opportunity to grow. I agree with you that we have several challenges to overcome in the coming 1 month, try not to over stress it, first of all, there is always a 2nd chance, and secondly, this is just a job application. Hopefully we will have more candidates joining the conversion soon and by then, we should have a better overall picture.

Hey guys, I took the exam 10/5 and I found out I passed the WCST on 10/6. They said by 10/20 we will receive a phone call so I am still waiting as well. I started to get nervous for a minute because some time has passed but from this thread it seems as if we are all still waiting for the call haha.

Hi, Dc_94, congratulations on passing the test and welcome to the discussion. There is no need to worry, the test deadline was 10/12, and the written portion needs 72 hrs to be graded(although it seems everyone gets their result in one day). So I believe they just got all the results last Friday. Next week they will sort all the application/test result and making list for the phone screening. Brush up your interview skills, it will come before you know it!

I also passed the two portions of the assessment although I was concerned that I didn't do the written section well. The knowledge portion was by far the easiest exam I've ever taken. So now I'm anxiously awaiting from them about screening. Interviews have never been my strong point, so I'm a bit worried. This is my only opportunity for work/internships as no other companies invited me to an interview for busy season. So I'm pretty much putting all my eggs into this one basket.

There are lots of smaller companies that don't necessarily hire for "busy season" that will provide challenging and rewarding experiences if you don't make it this time around, Chris. There's no shortage of entry-level accounting jobs out there, for sure, and you can always apply again next cycle and have the upper hand. This is a very competitive program, from what I gather of it, but you probably did better than you think. Keep the faith, and good luck!!

I took the tests very early in the process, so I have been eagerly awaiting this week to find out about a phone interview. Applied for the small bank position for June 2018 start dates in St. Louis and Indianapolis. I am hoping these are less of a preference for many. Good luck to everyone!

Hello and good luck to everyone. I passed both tests, but I wished I'd have known about the issue with applying across two separate districts. I'm hoping that Cleveland isn't a preferable location for many, but my 2nd (Philadelphia) probably is. This is my first time applying, but I have some banking experience which I hope might help. I actually live in Pittsburgh as well, so I'm crossing my fingers for that one, although there are not many vacancies from what I understand.

I'm glad to see a fellow 'Burgher among the ranks. Did you apply for both Mid and Large, RS403? I didn't know you COULD apply for both at the time, so I didn't. Though if I had known, the salaries in only cities I would leave PGH for wouldn't allow me to survive in them (NYC, San Fran, Boston)! I have experience, too, and taking a pay cut for this position is doable here, but feels impossible in most other cities because COL is so high. I just don't know how you get in, otherwise. I have 6 yrs of experience, but my application for a Level/Pay Band V position was rejected almost immediately.

Hello, Betty7, it looks like to me that you get in as a NB III, in 1 year, your got promoted to IV and 1 year after that, when you pass the exam and get commissioned, you get your NB V. So it is impossible for external applicants to apply for V as you would need to pass the exam, which is only offered internally.

That does seem to be the case, Aurther. I've been watching for almost a year and have never seen a level IV position offered. So start at the beginning or you have to get commissioned somewhere else (FRB, FDIC, etc). The ad said being commissioned wasn't required, but I'm sure commissioned candidates are given preference!!

Betty7, I think you should have better prospects at Band IV than most applicants with your level of experience. I only have 1.5 years out of college and I believe that I'm up against far more experienced candidates for III. Are any of you aware of individuals that have gotten hired either directly from school, or less than 2 years out? I do see your point on COL. One of the things that attracted me to the 'Burgh was its low COL, but unfortunately that means that salaries are lower as well. This position would represent about a 25% increase from where I stand now, but that might not mean much in Philly - definitely not in NYC!

RS403, if you look through all the posts on glassdoor, you will notice several posts mentioned that they applied through school, which could mean they don't have experience, yet they still got the position. Don't talk yourself down, present yourself well and that is all you need, I don't see a point of considering how good/bad other candidates are.

Does anyone know if calls for phone interviews go out exactly on the 20th? I just emailed Recruitment yesterday and they said if selected for phone interview then I would get a call before the end of October. Getting antsy!

Unfortunately, I do not have prior experience for the recruiting cycle, but I believe they will set up a time with you first for a future time in terms of phone interview instead of cold calling people and goes into interview immediately. I have not received any calls from OCC yet, let us be patient and have faith team! BTW, if anyone got calls from OCC, please do share with us, thanks!

I believe Oct 20 is the deadline they will set up phone interviews with "in the run" candidates.

Hey, everyone! I passed my knowledge test on October 11th and found out that I had passed the written test on the 13th. I'm impatiently waiting to see if I will be moving forward in the hiring process. This is my dream post-college gig! I listed the Philadelphia office as my first choice location, and the San Francisco office as my second choice location. Good luck to everyone involved in this round of hiring! Hi, Mac, that is a good question but I am afraid that is the question only OCC HR can answer and I will probably NOT bring it up until the career day when they have experts in that subject on site and ask in private, but that is just my suggestions.

I hear it, Aurthur. I interviewed with the Fed in NYC in May and it was July before they got back to me with a rejection. I've barely come down from "red alert" from that. I'm not emotionally prepared for a long wait on this! Haha! That's a good question, Mac. I know from previous posts that they do pull credit, but I have no idea what the criteria for "acceptable" credit are.

Hi, Betty, how are you doing? It already past 5PM there on the east coast so I guess it is safe for you to call it a day and go home, kick off your shoes and put a movie on. It will be a torture to us as the career day will be around Thanksgiving and waiting for some news for such a long holiday is not going to be fun, maybe it will be a good time to take some part time jobs during that time frame to switch focus a little. Fed is really difficult to get in as far as I know, last time I checked the employee profiles on their website, most of them have a PhD in economics...And Fed does not even use the USAJOBS channel to accept the applications, that just tells me how cocky they are LOL, so don't beat yourself up too much. It seems nobody got called so far, that is a good sign to me..

Well... The Federal Reserve is gov't affiliated, but they aren't a gov't agency. I'm pretty sure they can't use the USAJobs portal. I'm good, otherwise. Just impatient. You? Here's to hearing something tomorrow!

I’m 1000000000% sure that they email you with directions on how to schedule the phone interview, if you get selected for the phone screening. They don’t call to set that up.

I only applied to Western and nothing yet :/ Last year I applied to Southern & Eastern, they seem to be quicker about the process.. From what I read in the previous forum, Southern district tends to take longer during the application process.

Still waiting, but starting to freak out! My status on USAJobs still says "received", I haven't received any form of communication yet, and it's 1:47PM here on the East Coast. I applied to the Eastern (Philadelphia) and Western (San Francisco) regions. I'll try to stay sane for the rest of the day!

Hi all, Ive been watching this chain for the past week..I just received the email to interview next Wednesday for Large banks ...my status for that app also changed to "reviewed". My app status for small to mid is unchanged. I applied last minute..took the exams the last day. Im in Rochester but want to get out of WNY...my background is in mortgage banking and Roc has no more plentiful opportunities like it used to with an underwriting background so why not

I just received an email today for scheduling the phone-screening interview. I applied for the Central district for Community/Mid-sized banks.

As of 11:16 PM, I received an email to schedule to Midsize bank phone screening for the central, just letting you all know.

I assumed that I would receive an email telling me that I either did or did not manage to get an interview. Maybe I'm wrong, but that seemed to be the idea. As of Saturday morning now, I have yet to get anything, and my application still shows a "Received" status. I suppose this just means that I wasn't accepted which I pretty much assumed would happen from the start, but it would be nice to hear that from them directly rather than guessing.

I applied for both a large bank position (Pittsburgh) and also a MCBS position. I was emailed Friday for an interview that seems to be from the large bank division, but have not heard anything from the MCBS. Is it possible this one interview will encompass both? Since it is Saturday afternoon, should I assume that I am NOT going to be interviewed for the MCBS position?

Has anyone heard anything for MCSB Pittsburgh location?

When I applied I listed my top choices as the Philadelphia office and the New York office but it looks like the employees who are setting up the screening interview are from the Pittsburgh office. Did I mess up or can you still get scheduled for interviews from offices that weren't your top two choices?

@Oats - You can review the 162 other interviews on this website to get an idea of what they will ask. From what I understand, both the phone and in-person interviews are 99% behavioral questions. @Anon - I didn't think there was a Pittsburgh location for MCBS, just LBS? I'm gonna kick myself if I missed out on doubling my odds of getting an OCC job without moving. Lol @Ben - I wouldn't sweat it. It seems they're behind the 8 ball this cycle. Pittsburgh might just be helping out to get everyone scheduled ASAP.

The person doing your interview and their location has nothing to do with the location you applied.

I was told that if you applied for both large and midsize you still only have one phone interview, and that will encompass both.

I passed the OCC written test and I was suppose to receive a notification by Oct 20. I have not received an email at all. Any thoughts?

Had my phone interview for LBS. Was exactly as expected. Lasted about a half hour, give or take. She said that CED for LBS will be in Chicago this year. I love Chicago, so let's hope I get to see it. Let the anxiety begin!! 😬

Congratulations, Betty7! Sounds like you nailed it!! Could you share with us a little bit of the questions the interviewer asked? Also, What date the CED might be and when do you expect to hear anything back for the CED? Again, good job! Looks like the research and practice do pay off.

Just had my phone interview for MCBS! We actually went a little bit over since the call took about 48 minutes. I don't think I did so well (I'm very sick, so my voice isn't all the way there), but I'm still hopeful. She did ask a lot of follow-up questions and seemed interested in my answers! She also told me to get well, so at least she realized that I'm sick. I was told that CED for the Northeast region will be the week of November 13th, and that we'll know something by November 9th. I'm going to take a break from this site to avoid becoming overly anxious in anticipation, but I really hope to see some of you in NYC on the week of November 13th!

Interviewer asked STAR questions we've all seen: Difficult team member, a time you went above and beyond, a time you had to deal with change, etc. Also asked a few other random questions about willingness to travel, what you expect to get out of the experience, etc. Literally nothing I wasn't expecting. I forgot to ask when we'd hear back. That was silly of me, but I was kind of keyed up. 😁 CED will be a 1/2 day meet n' greet with Execs and EICs followed by the panel interview.

scheduled for phone interview on wednesday. i think i screwed the pooch since i submitted an lbs application for pitt and mc for a station in the western district and another one in the southern district. based on what i've read in this thread and last years thread, will they just ignore my 2nd and 3rd choice and leave me only with pitt?

-failson: Yes, you will be considered for the lBS only unless there is a shortage of recommended candidates for your 2nd choice. The 3rd choice is almost guaranteed to be ignored unless something else happens or your 2nd and 3rd choices don't have enough candidates that applied

-PhillyExplorer and everyone else: The CED will be in the headquarter office of NYC on 340 Madison Ave. OCC will be placing you in a 4 star hotel near time square, most likely a Sheraton for the night before the interview. After the interview is done they will take you in for fingerprints and a small chat from other assistant national bank examiners. After that you will get a call back after one week to notify you that you have gotten an offer or send you an email 2-3 weeks later for rejection.

@Aurther of this post I can't guarantee that you'll get the same questions, but I suggest thinking about your answers to why you chose the OCC/why are you interested in finance and banking, times you've worked in difficult groups, and times when your actions made a positive impact. The willingness to travel and relocate questions are pretty self-explanatory. Hope that helps a little! To the anonymous poster: will the OCC put me in a hotel if I live in Philly? Also, will they put me on Amtrak instead of flying me into JFK due to the relatively short distance between the cities? Thanks for that big slice of helpful information!

We can't share anything regarding the exam as agreed in the terms upon taking the exam. I'd say read the guidelines they provide on the cover page of the written exam.

Just had my MCBS phone interview for central, it went a bit over, which I hope is good, we talked about a lot of behavioral situation, do work above and beyond, handle change, etc. Chatted a bit about international travel experience, told me a lot about the training period and what I would expect. Said I would hear back at latest by 11/9/17. Does it sound like it went well to you all? Hope everyone else is having good impressions from the phone interviews.

I just had my phone interview too, I don't know how it went but I felt it was decent. Mine lasted about 25 minutes for MCBS.

Hi, team, I have finished my interview, I think I did OK... I was asked about 4 behavior questions, and they all have been covered in the past posts, so preparation is key and don't forget to answer in the STAR format. Other than that, we talked a little bit about my past experience, and the travel and relocation related to this position. The lady who did the interview with me was nice. The interview lasted about 45 minutes. Just like everyone has been informed so far, CED is gonna be in the week of Nov. 13 and we shall hear something by 9th. I need to relax a little bit now and catch up with my work and school before the big day comes... Not sure if I missed anything, if you have any questions, please ask and I can see if I can relate. i think i did extremely good in this interview. i don't believe i made the cut for lbs (pitt) but my interviewer said that if i pass the CED for western district is in denver since i applied for iowa. so based on these answers it looks like each region's CED will be located at their central office: Eastern: NYC Western: Denver, CO Midwest: Chicago South: Dallas hopefully this should clarify everything for some people since i was confused at first. good luck to everyone

Yes, you are right. PGH was the only location for LBS, which is what I applied for. The interviewer told me LBS CED is in Chicago.

It's likely if you are interviewing for *both* MCBS and LBS (regardless of what district your MCBS spot is) that it's in Chicago, too, I just can't confirm because I didn't submit a MCBS application.

I was told that for sure if that you are selected for both midsize and large the career exploration day will be in Chicago. Also I wouldn’t put a lot of stock into how long your phone interview was. Mine was almost a hour but my interviewer dominated the conversation so I do not think it went that well.

No it's not mine is tomorrow.

The last day for interview should be tomorrow because in the interview email it stated that if the proposed time for the interview is not convenient for you, you can suggest another time but it must be before 10/26 COB, which is tomorrow. I think it is important to look back (if you have done the interview) and review the notes to see what you did well and what you kind of stumbled then make improvement, after all, it's all about the CED interview and phone interview is a good practice. It's a good idea to sort of reverse-engineering and try to figure out what OCC is thinking but overdoing it is probably not a good idea. I would suggest take all the present and past comments, what your friends and neighbors said into consideration, but always only take OCC website and direct communication with OCC as the only valid resources. It's really nice to see so many of us advanced this far, don't forget why and how you started and keep on fighting!

Yes they pay. However, sometimes the hotel is paid through reimbursement.

I had my interview this morning, it went well. My interviewer was great, answered all my questions. There was nothing that participating in this forum did not cover or help me prepare for. I am being considered for LBS although I applied for both LBS and MCBS (I assume because of my background).

Failson, the travel for CEW is centrally booked by the OCC. They'll simply tell you where you are staying

I don't consider myself an expert when it comes to USAJOBS.GOV applications, but I did apply for about 30 openings so far and from my personal experience, the status is NOT a good indicator of anything except the "received" you got initially. The best indicators for this position is following: 1. Test Invitation Email (you application is received correctly) 2. Phone Screen Interview Email(you passed the test and have met the minimum requirement) 3. CED invitation email (you passed the screen interview) 4. Offer Call! (you passed everything! Well, I am not sure if they're gonna call or email, but from past post, seems like it's going to be a call) I got about 5 applications in USAJOBS that are referred, 3 showing reviewed and 9 showing received. They don't make a difference to me.

In terms of traveling, from the past post, OCC will book your ticket to the CED (airplane or train), so no worry there. But when it comes to hotel, it's a mix bag. It seems in the past that OCC only made reservation for the hotel but did NOT pay upfront. On CED you fill in a reimbursement form for that cost. It could be some time before you get reimbursed, so it's probably a good idea to set aside some money to cover that.

The occ pays 100% of your transportation and lodging for CED. They reimburse you for meals and per say you had to leave your car at the airport garage.

I just received an email stating that I did not qualify for LBS yet they confirmed that I did a phone interview for MCBS. The only confusing part is that they said I'll get a response by Nov 17th regarding the status of my MCBS application. This kinda contradicts what's been stated in this whole thread since CED is on the week of Nov 13th. This means I'm not in the running for my first office choice but nothing else.

-PhillyExplorer and Everyone else: When chosen for the CED, Occ will ask you to choose how would you like to travel to the field office to have the interview. There are three options to choose from: 1. Drive your own vehicle. OCC will pay at a flat rate in regards to how many miles you have reported for traveling to the office and back home. 2. Flight tickets will be issued to you if you choose to fly, you have to submit your location and the preference to travel either in morning, afternoon or night time. OCC then will book the flight for you. 3. Amtrak. If you live closer to the filed office for CED and choose not to take the flight, a preference of taking the train will be available to you. Same procedure with above, you have to submit your location and the preference to travel either in morning, afternoon or night time. OCC then will book the Amtrak for you. For all methods of traveling listed above,reimbursement for taxi is provided. For example even if you choose to drive to the filed office location and stayed in a hotel the night before, you can still call a cab to arrive at the field office the next morning and not have to worry about where to park your vehicle. Meals will not be reimbursed, so keep that in mind.

Anybody knows if they check with the supervisors you listed on the resume? I did not quite get long with one of my previous boss but I listed her as it seems to be a requirement when you fill in the resume through USAJOBS.

If same questions from screen interview were to ask on CED, will you answer with the same example for behavioral questions? What is your opinion?

Absolutely. I've already been over and over and over my responses. I've picked the best anecdotal stories I can come up with in the six years I've been an auditor. An in person setting will afford a little more time and opportunity to expound on those stories, so as to answer the questions more completely and give the interviewer more of a clear picture. I wouldn't try to come up with a second explanation that doesn't answer the question as well, just for the sake of having a "new" response.

@JM - The entire event is 3 days (13th-15th), but the part you have to be at is 1/2 a day. How long you are actually in the city will entirely depend on what you coordinate with the scheduler, and how far away you are from your headquarters.

They provide you with a cell phone. It will be a Washington DC based line. You can pick AT&T or Verizon, or you can use your personal number and it'll be subsidized some.

Got an invite to CED on Nov 14th in Chicago. I saw that someone else had a CED on the 16th in Chicago. Are the dates random, or is there a certain reason some people go to an earlier CED? Also, how many people usually get invited to one of these? It seems like almost everyone here who got a phone interview got an invite.

It does seem most have gone on to the next round and it is exciting but in all honesty I do have reservations about moving twice long distance in a 6 mos period and the logistics of that as a single person. (After hire travel is no problem). General high turnover of the position seems apparent, something I ordinarily treat as a flag when job hunting.

I am not sure if the dates mean anything, maybe OCC HR knows. In my opinion, team, everyone has his or her equal shot at this point at CED. OCC is paying for everything for us to go there and experience their culture and opportunities, so I appreciate their gesture and efforts and of cause the money. I am not worrying about who is in front of me, behind me, with me for the CED, I am not worried even if Alan Greenspan is in my group at that day. It’s all about you now, sharp up everything for CED and you will be fine. BTW, I am really excited to see Denver(never been there). Good luck, folks!

this is probably speculation but i would gather turnover is a function of the ratio of travel (ie the share of travel in excess of 50 miles so your put into a hotel vs regular vehicle travel to client sites) and the general office culture. i would also imagine office culture plays a crucial role in this.

Well, guys, I didn't make it this time. I received my rejection email about two hours ago. I suppose that's what I get for trying to do the interview while extremely sick. Oh well, I guess I'll apply again in January. Congrats to everyone who was invited to CED! I will no longer comment since I'm out of this recruiting cycle's round, but I will likely continue to watch and see how some of the posters that I recognize advance in the process.

Just found out about this thread. I applied early in October and took my test Oct 11. Found out I passed the following week and had my phone interview the following week. Got a call Oct 31 that I got invited to CED. My CED will be between Nov 13-15 in Dallas. Does anyone know what to expect? Type of questions they will ask?

@PhillyExplorer, please come back and check the feedbacks everyone got from CED and I am sure with all the experience you have now, you will be much better prepared for the next cycle (which is right around the corner after holiday season). Compare with other government agencies, OCC has a much faster pace when it comes to recruiting. Good luck!!

This may be a stupid question, but since they are flying me down and putting me up in a hotel, I assume I am in charge of finding my own taxi to the building.

based on what they sent in the invitational email the instructions say that flight and hotel costs are billed directly to the OCC (ie theyre paying for it) and i think you can get reimbursed for taxi expenses from your hotel to the office and other expenses.

I made it to CED in Dallas back in April and I was reimbursed for my mileage to and from the airport, parking, and my Lyft to the interview and back to the airport. I didn’t eat anything that day, but I assume that they would have reimbursed me for that as well.

According to OCC we don't get reimbursed for meals. Just airfare, mileage, hotel, and transportation to and from airport & hotel.

They will tell you by November 9th for sure. In the meantime, as long as you haven’t received the rejection email, you shouldn’t give up hope, my 2 c.

Do you have to put in a specific request for a hotel? If I'm 70 miles away will I qualify?

I flew in and out the same day when I went to Dallas. I’m not sure what circumstances constitute getting a hotel room.

My flight is in and out of Denver on the same day. I think that your travel preferences (departing morning, afternoon, or evening) that you selected in your candidate profile determine whether or not you get a hotel. I chose morning, so of course the least expensive thing for them to do is avoid a night in a hotel. Makes sense to me. Does anyone know how long CED will last?

KCx - what else did they tell you when they sent your itinerary? I'm thinking I may also get flights on the same day since my time is 12:30 and I was curious as to how that will go down. Also, I believe it's 4 hours.

I'd say 50/50. Acceptance of the invitation to CED was due by noon today. If people don't accept, it seems reasonable that they'd start going down the line inviting the next most qualified candidates. Good luck!!

I emailed my interviewer, because I thought the same thing - my flight home was too early. She said that they made some changes to the campaign this time around and that the whole thing is only about 2-2.5 hrs. Hope that helps.

What time is your return flight? My session begins at 7:30 and my return flight is about 1:30. Seems like this may be too early.

For those staying in a hotel, what do you plan on doing with your bag while at the interview? I assume we will have to check out of our rooms before hand. I'm going to pack light, but i will have that one bag with me and I don't know what to do with it.

Didn't stay in a hotel last time but I had a backpack and they had a storage room, this was NYC office

7:30+2.5 hrs = 10am. That's *plenty* of time to make a 1:30 flight. The hotel they put me in is about 3 blocks from the event. I am leaving my bag with the front desk of the hotel after I check out. If you don't feel comfortable asking them to hold it, just bring it. Lots of people will be doing the same thing.

As stated, you can leave your bag with the front desk at the hotel or you can bring it with you. They will have a closet/storage area for your bag(s) at your interview location.

I'm new to the thread, and concur with timelines above. I've heard the time from CED to offer can be 2-3 weeks (yikes). It's been a long two+months of anxiety for me! I'm headed to Denver for CED next week as well. I have less than 10 years in finance industry, zero experience in public sector. I always had great experiences working with OCC Examiners in the past, so I'm excited to finally bite the bullet and go after this position. It's definitely a pay cut (initially), but I'm intrigued by the numerous career paths and specialties available. Best of luck to you all!

Does anyone know what kind of questions they ask at the CED interview? Looking back at older Glassdoor posts, it seems the questions are very similar to the phone interview questions in any given hiring quarter, but the questions seem to differ from quarter to quarter. Someone who's been to CED before - does this sound right to you? Should I just be refining the answers I gave during the phone interview?

Dx, I'm in the same situation. I get flown out to Chicago on the 13, stay in a nice hotel, then have CED on the 14th. I'd just enjoy the city you're in, prep your interview answers in the hotel, and just relax.

For those who are freaking out because they haven't heard anything. I emailed my phone interviewer and he was surprised nothing is being sent. He is asking around to figure out what is going on.

What's so sad is the person claiming not to have heard anything and getting everyone in an uproar is most likely the same troll that was on the previous feed of over 700 comments and they are here on this feed again because they haven't ever been invited to CED or was invited and got turned down they are sick enough to create confusion and make everyone life miserable because they are miserable! I'm certain that OCC is competent enough to notify it's candidates! My interview went great. PNC's Examiners that lead my interview were a delight. The presentation about the program was super informative. The initial phone interviewer said all offers for LBS would be made before Thanksgiving. FYI - they are hiring four people into Pittsburgh's LBS. Relieved it's over, and I am cautiously optimistic. Off to the airport!

My interview was 2:1, and the two gentlemen just took turns asking behavioral questions. Literally nothing that wasn't covered in this forum. I didn't ask the total number of candidates, but if I had to guess, I would say there were probably just over 20. Given that there were only 2 people in my group, and presumably groups at 8, 10, 12, and 2 for three days. MCBS was much larger. There were at least 5 candidates in the group that was at the same time as me.

Is there any way of knowing how many positions there are for MCBS for the Northeast? Also, I thought CED was 14-16? Or was it only 2 days in NYC?

Hello, team, I am done with interview about 2 hrs ago, sitting in the airport, very tired. The overall experience I had was very good, although I was asked a lot of questions during the interview, I think I got 10 at least in total, and about 7-8 were behavior questions. But like Betty said, there were no surprises on the questions , it just strikes me that I thought it was going to be like the phone interview for about 4-5 behavior questions. Anyways, great relief, I did the best I could for sure. Wish everyone gets the offer call starting next week!

Truth to be told, if you are on the second day and even the third day of CED, chances are you are very unlikely to get selected. Your CED date as well as the group you been put in is designed specifically in mind with your overall score from the written test/multiple choice test and your phone interview. The best ones were to put on the first group on the first day, meaning they are the first ones get interviewed. It also means that if you do qualify for the job they will be considered before the candidates in the later groups or even in the later days. Keep in mind there are 4 groups per day and each group consists of 14-18 people. Considering the fact that each field office only hires 3-5 people, you can do the math yourself.

Does it matter? Even if it’s the case, how many here would still go to CED if they are placed on 2nd or 3rd day? I know I would.

I agree. It's not the place to be nasty to each other. We are all stressed and anxious. A lot of posts on here seem negative just for the sake of being negative. Let's be supportive. If we make it into this program, playing nice in the sandbox is kind of mandatory, or it will make for a long five years. FWIW, I went back through. I didn't see a single person on this thread who indicated they were actually invited to Dallas, so it's quite possible the Southern District hasn't had theirs yet. It would also explain why one person said the recruiter told them they'd hear about CED by the 17th, rather than the 9th, although I also have no idea what district that person was from. Also, FWIW, as I already indicated, there were only 5 or 6 people in the Central MCBS group during my time slot, not 14-16.

I wouldn't really trust what anonymous is saying about the day of your CED. I doubt someone who was part of recruiting for the OCC would be commenting on this and if they're not part of it they really don't know. They wouldn't fly you out and pay for a hotel if they weren't interested. I'm not saying it's a guarantee, but I don't think that just because you were on the 2nd or 3rd day that means it's unlikely you'll be selected. Not that it really matters. I was told training in the NE would be in the central district, in either Columbus, Cincinnati, or Louisville. I am LBS, though, so I don't know if MCBS training for NE is actually in in the NE or not.

Hey everyone, we are all going through the same process all feeling the same anticipation to find out if we were selected, if you have negative speculation please keep it to yourself. Until December 4th we all have an equal opportunity to be selected. The person who commented saying the day you interviewed determined the likelihood of your selection spoke inaccurately. I know fellow college alum in the occ who told me the day of your interview has nothing to do with the chances you have of being selected. For NE it's possible to train in NYC because one of the tour guide is in the NY field department and he trained in NYC too

It's not 100% guaranteed to be trained at the field office you applied. Most likely you will be trained at one of the bigger district location for training

The lead recruiter said they try to fill up all their hires for northeast for June right now and not hiring for the next cycle in January unless they can't fill up the positions

I think it's pretty tough to tell how many they are hiring. Each training team consists of about 5, so I would assume each field office is hiring about 5 people. I'm not sure how it works for NYC specifically, because they're hiring for Manhattan, Jersey City and Edison, so IDK if that means 5 for each office or 5 for New York as a whole. I believe what they mean by hiring again in January is if a lot of people don't accept offers. Again, I really don't know, just doing my best to speculate.

For my session the lead recruiter specifically said that because in the past they have been hiring in October and January so they often have to break up the training session into two and it's much easier for them if they just hire once and train all the new hires together. So for this time they wanted to try to recruit everyone in just one setting and not have to worry about train the new hires again in January unless they can't fill the positions. This is only for the northeast district

Everybody, stay calm. The process has just started, keep an eye out next week and the following week for calls/emails. Last cycle it was roughly two weeks from first-last offers with some divisions starting several days ahead of others. I hope everyone was able to get the position they were going for! Don't be discouraged either way and reapply the spring round if you don't make this round. I know one guy that was hired in April (June start) was finally accepted on his 4th attempt, so don't be at all discouraged if you are interested you'll be even more prepared. Good luck everyone!

Also one more thing, I read on here that they would hire a lot of people then trim it down to the ones they wanted to keep during training. Is this true? Also by looking up reviews by the associate and the assistances on here most of them reflect the same issue with training and first starting out until you made it to UCE. Can anybody confirm if this is true?

To the person who stated I was being "Delusional", please do not manifest negativity. It sucks enough that I did not get the second interview and this is my Second time applying. My entire future outlook on my career is desired by becoming an OCC employee. Although not being informed ahead of time and having to reach out to the agency about my status after ALL CEDs have taken place is a bit discouraging to my career goals, but your comment and outlook is a bit disturbing and doesn't help others that have to look forward to other career opportunities. My recruiter gave me my itinerary for CED and answered a bunch of questions at 7:30pm two Saturdays ago. So never say never, but I haven't heard anything, either. Doesn't seem like anyone has, except one person who I personally think was making an obvious attempt to troll.

Literally only a couple of offers get sent on Friday, the majority will be starting in the morning. There should have been at least one ambassador that was a Friday hire at your CED. But yet again, that doesn't mean anything to be worried about. 99% of offers start the following week.

Hey everyone. I received an offer for the western district earlier today. I am here to clarify the misconception regarding Which day you had your CED. I was a day 3 CED candidate so I genuinely don’t believe the day you went has anything to do with your eligibility. Good luck, I hope you all get selected !

My CED was on the 15th (day 2}. June start. I haven't gotten an alert from Capital One yet that my credit was pulled, and my job status is still "Reviewed" on USAJobs with a last updated date in September.

The last person who posted about getting an offer last year got the offer on November 30th. CED was over roughly the same days this year, and the end of the month is over a week away. To the person asking about San Francisco - I received an offer for SF on Friday, November 17 around 4pm. My training is also in SF. :) We were told on CED (held 11/14) that the offers would start on 11/20, and they should wrap them up by 12/4. There is still hope!

How many people do they recruit to each field office? And how long do they give the offerees to decide on the offers?

I'm not certain on the number of people that are recruited for each office but I was given 48 hours to accept/decline the offer.

For what it’s worth I’d say never give up. This is my third time applying for the OCC and I finally received an offer. Yes I was upset and kind of discouraged the first two times but I redirected that energy into performing better the next recruitment cycle. First time around I failed the knowledge assessment, 2nd time I passed knowledge failed the WCST, 3rd time I passed both portions and the interviews.. If this is really what you want keep working for it , eventually you will get it!

I want to believe offers will still go out for other districts next week. It’s hard to believe so many of us didn’t get offers, but I’ve also somewhat lost faith.

From what o recall there were 49 that made it to the CED and they were hiring I believe 15-20 if I remember correctly. These are southern district numbers.

From those with experience, is it easier or more difficult to get hired for a June start from the April hiring, or is it really just luck?

Sadly it is. Even my phone interview told me the fact that passing the interviews is not enough to keep the job. The train period consists of 6-7 months followed by 5-6 months of probation period. If your monthly evaluation period is ever came back below a satisfactory grade, you will be removed from the position. If you do not believe me you can look up the reviews on Glassdoor and see how many "helpful" upvote some of the reviews received when they talk about how much people get trimmed out by the training and probation period.

I got a notification the OCC pulled my credit but I haven't receeived an offer. Does anybody think that's a good sign that offers still may be going out or do you think they just do it for everyone?

The reviews don’t say that regarding training and probation is 12 months from when you start

Training teams do not have 50+ percent attrition rates. Most people make it off training team and make it off probation. There are a few who simply aren't cut out for the job, but that's the exception. That person will have warning and be given an opportunity to improve.

Keep in mind that people are a lot more inclined to come and write a review if they had a very negative experience. So you're likely to read about a lot of those negative experiences here, and it isn't necessarily an accurate representation of the number of people that don't make the cut.

I prepared myself for the interview honestly by doing my own outside research on the OCC and remembering the questions they asked me on the phone interview and coming up with new examples to similar questions. I researched the OCC's history and their mission/purpose, reiterating it in the interview. Aside from that just being calm and confident in what i could bring to the table, you know? You are your own greatest asset in this life, when you truly believe that people will see it. Just have faith in yourself and your abilities! Also, I applied for the LA field office, I hope this helps! & I hope you all get offers this coming week, best of luck to everyone!

Again it's not safe to assume anything. That being said use some quick logic. Offers were starting on Monday of last week. The week ended for most federal and state employees on Wednesday (most also took a half day that day as well)

Hey, everyone! So I was one of the unfortunate recruits who was denied during the phone interview stage (I interviewed while being extremely sick). I'm checking in after over a month of being absent from this forum. I'd like to start off by saying congratulations to all that have received an offer! While reading through the comments, however, I noticed that someone mentioned that the Northeast District isn't really looking to hire January recruits. That sucks, as I REALLY wanted to work out of the Philadelphia field office my first time around. Now that I'm preparing to start the process over again in January, that statement now has me rethinking my initial plans. Did anyone successfully make it (at least an interview) to a district outside of the district that they reside in? If the Northeast District isn't looking to hire anyone, then I wouldn't mind applying to either Central (Chicago-Downers Grove) or Western (San Francisco).

The lead northeast recruiter said specifically that the northeast isn't trying to hire in January unless they can't fill the positions. Also SF is very competitive to get in plus the rent is very high, maybe Chicago is easier but I'm not sure

It looks to me they prefer local candidate/s; seems the few who received offers are living in the same cities where the field offices located.

To me the OCC HR likes to do industry hires with people who's been working for 1-2 years. Do they not consider OCC' turnover rates? It makes more sense to do less industry hiring when the candidate is clearly leaving a company behind after the firm's initial investment and training in them and look for something else, just like how they came to interview with the occ and leaving their old company behind. Do OCC not see the fact they will do just the same in a few years and go somewhere else? Leaving the same place understaffed and lose of investment in candidates

Appreciate the kind words. I prepared a bit for the interview but once I got in there it all went out the window.

The sad truth is the OCC isn't hiring that many people for their entry level positions due to the fact that there are people who doesn't do any work in the government and still gets paid like everyone else knowing that they will never get fired. The latest company review on OCC clearly stated that there are people who comes in and just stare at their computer screen all day/sits around do nothing meanwhile there are so many of us who eagerly wanted to be part of OCC and willing to do the hard works. It's just how government works and nobody can do anything about it.

^welcome to adulthood. I wouldn’t focus energy on things you can’t control, if the OCC is your dream job, figure out what they want and make sure you have it before you apply again. Best of luck!

Did anyone ever see their status change? I think I’ve officially lost hope. Made it all the way to CED, and thought St. Louis and Indianapolis wouldn’t be among the most desirable locations, guess I was wrong.

The office I’m going to is large and a few states away. For those applying in the future, I don’t think you should be swayed by the location in reference to where you currently live.

How about share some of your credentials with us so we can have some clue? Years of related experience? Super charming character? Connections? Luck? It doesn’t sound like a good advice to others to apply for somewhere far far away in general.

Also keep in mind that an unpopular location might also have a smaller incoming number of new hires

Sorry if you took what I wrote as advise, it was just my experience. This might be hard to believe, but I think they just thought I was a good fit for the position. Maybe I scored well on the test. Maybe they liked my interview answers, I wouldn’t know and won’t drive myself crazy trying to speculate. Best of luck to you though!

No one want you to guess anything, just want to know what kind of qualifications you have so others can compare and gauge themselves. And the main point is that your experience doesn’t reject the local candidate advantage at all.

Stop being so harsh to him. He doesn't have to tell you anything, the fact that he is willing to help you and explained what he thought was the reason made him get the offer is already fair enough. Maybe it's your attitude that made the OCC rejected you for the position

For people who are applying again next time are you going to apply for the June start date or the January start date?

For the poster asking for advice, I think a major key is attitude showing confidence but not arrogance. That you are willing to learn and are able to articulate yourself clearly and concisely. I have an accounting degree and worked an internship so I talked a bit about how my intern assignments helped me to developed transferable skills. And outlined those skills and how they relate. Also make sure you seem team oriented as almost all your work will be in a team. That’s the best I can offer you ask questions that are indicative of longevity with the agency. Hope this helps whoever applies next round. Also make sure ur responses to the behavioral questions hit all points as they use a star interview approach (you can google that)

Listen - do not give up hope! they have probably made the first round of offers, but that doesn't mean that everyone who applied will accept. Hang in there. I know it is hard to be optimistic at this point, but the process is not officially closed yet.

so to reiterate: lets ignore 22,23,24 since most people will take off or leave early. 20,21: offers have been extended to almost all districts minus the north east 27,28,29: offers have only been extended to central, nothing at all for west or south is this correct?

Offers are done last week, before holiday; the one received offer this week was a rare case that someone either declined or didn’t pass background/credit check, he happened to be the first on the waiting list. With him accepting offer yesterday, there is nothing left.

Given how the process turned out for most of us I don't think majority of the people would reapply again.

What is everyone's rejection email looks like? As far as I know there are two types of rejection email, one saying you were not recommended for the position and other one saying the process is very competitive and you were not selected for a position.

The second one meaning you were among the recommended ones but not high enough on the list to make it meanwhile the first one just straight out rejected you

I applied and got to CED, but I got my rejection email on Friday Dec 1. I wish the email didn't say that "based on your decision interview, you were not recommended" though. I mean, that's pretty obvious, but it's also really discouraging because it sounds like "Hey, you did well in every step, but boy did you really screw up that interview" to me. I'll be honest though. I really want this position, so I might reapply at some point...but I really don't want to. Every step in the process was a constant spike in anxiety for me, and the whole business of flying out to Chicago was a continual source of stress.

I'm one of the Southern District people that's received an offer. Don't get too discouraged by the change in USAJobs status. While you probably got the e-mail this morning, the status actually changed yesterday, before offers were made (I got up and checked it at 9am, got my offer at 9:10). When I got my offer, while they impressed on me the importance of deciding quickly, they noted that I technically have 48 hours to decide. I did make my decision quickly, but it's possible someone else who was made an offer will say no. And if you end up not getting it, just keep trying. If you got to the point of interview, they're biggest concern was probably long-term interest, by going through the process, you show your dedication. I saw that too. I find it odd that western with all of the open offices had sent out offers first (assuming from the post it was 4/14) before all other districts and that no one else from western who is posting on here has heard anything. I'm not going to count it out yet.

Well, Southern district, I received an email from Maria Solis stating that the process was still ongoing and that I should hear back by close of business May 4, 2015. So if you want to check your status, maybe try contacting her, see if she says the same or something similar. I guess that's pretty decent news for us, ehh?

^ I received my offer via a phone call last Tuesday. That is when the Northeast candidates were called. I was offered a position and a salary. I was informed there would be an official offer letter coming in the next two weeks.

NE here, I already got my reimbursement, and don't be shocked when it's higher than what you turned in, they gave me over $100 for meals that I never filled out for. I also talked to David Andersen, he was nice enough to tell me how I could improve my interview next time if I apply again, I would encourage everyone to call and talk about the interview, it was helpful. My reimbursement was direct deposited to my checking on April 30th. Also Mr. Andersen went over how they scored me, and said that my communication score was what I needed to work on, that meaning I scored low on the in person interview. He will also tell you how you did on the tests in comparison to others if you ask and other general knowledge on how to better yourself next time around.

I emailed NE recruiter and he told me that even though I was not selected that out of Highly Recommended, Recommended, and Not Recommended, I was scored as a Recommended. He also said that they call all the Highly Recommended people first then move on to the Recommended. I guess none of the Highly Recommended people said no. Still a positive thing for me. Looking forward to improving myself for next time.

I haven’t taken test this cycle yet. You’ll know pretty immediately if you pass. Email from the recruiter was stating the career exploration day/in-person interviews should be the week of Nov 13, should end of Oct or beginning of November should be notified if your score/resume qualify you for the next stage.

Hey everyone. I took the test at the end of last week. It seems as though they made the test easier than a year ago when I went through this whole process. After the test, I received an email saying I will hear something no later than November 5. Surely it won't take that long, right? How does everyone else feel about test results and has anyone heard anything else?

I think the last day to take them is around Oct 15. So beginning of November sounds reasonable. I’m not taking mine until Oct 10th

Its a free form prompt but computers grade it so theres no biases like last spring where a human reviewer graded it

Hey guys I just also took the assessment and it said that I successfully completed it and should hear back from hr no later than November 5th. I went through this last spring and made it to the phone interviews which I didn’t go past. Does anyway know if they’re going through phone interviews again or just straight asking people to interview in person? Also the essay and assessment was fairly easy like last time, the 3rd part was kind of difficult and you had to actually think critically.

It's looking like they aren't doing a phone interview this go around. What type of questions were on the third part? Anything that needs to be studied? What locations did everyone apply for?

I went through this process last fall. I took the test, had a phone interview, and then they flew me out to the district HQ for CED day. For those who don't know what CED day is, it is a day where they have a lot of people come and learn more about the OCC and the position. At the end, you are sent to an interview with three higher-ups from that district.

Passed the assessments today as well. Like the above poster said, the email stated we should hear by November 5th about next steps. Should be CED.

Taking the test this weekend, applied for the Northeast region. This is my 3rd time taking the exam, 1st time failed the WCST, 2nd time passed both parts but then they decided they weren't hiring for the locations I had chosen. I am hoping 3rd time around is going to be different. Anyone who has taken the exam can give any advise on the third exam they just added and what should we be preparing for?

It was basic math and reasoning. I found some practice tests online by googling analytical reasoning tests.

Taking my assessment test on Monday. Does anyone have tips on the writing portion.

I think it’s important to plan out your time. I take close to 5 to 10 minutes to outline. I’ve done 4 paragraphs both time. So I take the next 35 minutes to write everything out. Then use the remaining time to proofread, paying special attention to spelling and that my verb tenses match. Not having a spellcheck is weird in a modern world, so if anything is questionable I will try to change it to a synonym. It’s worked for me, passing this time and in the spring.

In the spring I got the invite for CED on March 19th, itinerary on March 22nd, and flew out to Chicago on April 3rd. With them saying CED is around middle of November I would expect invites around end of this month or beginning of next. Testing just ended on Monday, so they are probably just starting to go through results.

Are you guys fresh from college or have some work experience? I've been working at a large bank for ~8 years, and looking for a change. I wonder how they compare that with people straight from uni.

I hope well. I took up all my time and everyone was friendly. I tried to keep the nerves down. I felt the presentation was much better and more informative than in the spring. It didn’t seem like a lot of people were applying for the same location that I was as well

Did anyone else feel like the interview was incredibly difficult? When I answered a question they would ask for more info as if I wasn’t answering them.

I don’t think it was difficult necessarily, I did have them ask for more on a couple of questions... but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing.

I think when they were following up on questions, they were fishing for more buzz words. It would be a great Thanksgiving to know if there is an offer!

Just checked my credit. Had a credit pull from Occ Pre employment yesterday. Hoping that’s a good sign.

Background checks take at least a week, so not sure how that’s possible. And I’m also pretty sure they do a soft pull so that wouldn’t appear on a credit check. Even if they did, it’d take at least a week for those to hit as well.

No idea on background checks but I pull credit pretty normally as part of my job. It can be done in seconds. I did a free TransUnion check to show the soft pulls. Definitely showed the Occ pull on 11/16.

Where’d you get yours for free? I use Credit Karma but it doesn’t show soft pulls

My credit pull was done in a day and criminal records done in 2 days. Interviewed at CED in Wednesday and was given offer on Friday and have 48hrs to decide.

How do you know it’s 50? There were 12 ppl in my session. And there’s like 2 sessions a day. So that’s 24, and didn’t they interview for 3 days (Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday)? So it’s like 72-75?

S: I doubt all offers are out. I think they were doing a ton of hiring this cycle and I know I spent 20 minutes or so on my offer call. Plus they give you 48 hours to accept, so there are possibly some offers coming if someone declines an offer.

It doesn’t look like those of us who didn’t get offers are gonna get any more. This week is pretty much over, and I doubt there will be any people who refuse the job so there won’t be many offers next week.

S: For the 2nd time I went in more relaxed. To help, I asked for a late check out at the hotel so I had some down time after. I also planned out some free time the night before to walk to the building and familiarize myself.

Says “I wasn’t selected” should’ve went for a easier office. Also says next recruitment is in Fall 2019??? Is that just for the New York office or the whole country? Usually they have spring recruitment.

The webpage has "Please check back in September 2019 for next fall’s availability." so it looks like there may not be a spring recruitment? Can always ask the recruiter. I know the central recruiter sent me a couple emails before the fall recruitment (looked like mass email to all CED invitees that didn't get the job previously).

Also looks like they are no longer hiring entry Large Bank examiners, just doing internal for them.

This just depresses me, was initially happy that at least I met their bench marks on the interview since it says “weren’t selected” instead of “not recommended”. I have always been terrible at behavioral questions so this was a W. But as soon as I read next cycle is in fall 2019 my heart sank.

Just read my rejection email from the Northeast and was also sad to see their next recruitment is fall of 2019.

It wasn’t bad, not as many financial ratio questions as I thought though. The writing portion was actually a prompt and not a loan review packet as I had heard. The logical reasoning section was challenging, after a while your brain starts jumbling up names and scenarios. Honestly not sure how I did overall. I am waiting for the results. Also I applied for the Tampa field office.

Was anyone else told that if they did not pass the first portion they wouldn’t be able to proceed to the written portion?

I'm just looking at common interview questions, making sure I would have an idea of what I would say. I think for the ethical/situational questions it's quite hard to prep as there are no correct answers. So I would say just focus on being able to talk about your experiences. I applied to SF and LA.

Because of covid 19, the OCC had a virtual webinar that was replacing the career exploration day and attendance was mandatory to complete an interview.

Yeah, kinda odd, perhaps they were informing us that they were going to start the criminal background check or something. Hopefully this is a good sign but maybe it’s a part of the normal process haha. If I can get in touch with them today I will let you know what I find out!

Got a call from them too, after calling them back it seems like it was Security calling to inform me that I've passed the credit check, no idea what that could mean though. Does anyone know if they do checks for all potential applicants or just the ones with more chances of getting an offer?

The security officer I spoke to said that I had passed the interview and besides telling me I passed the credit check asked if I had been arrested before. Hopefully, all of this is a good sign.

That's great news! The security officer never informed me of my interview status but basically told and asked me the same thing. I hope that doesn't mean my interview didn't go well. Has anyone received any emails/calls informing them of their offer yet? Results should be out either this or next week.

I haven’t heard anything yet. I personally was not able to reach the security office even though I called several times. I emailed the recruiter about it but other than that I believe they are still looking over the candidates. I would like to think that if they are looking into our background checks then it could mean we are being seriously considered.

I just got off the phone with the recruiter! I got my contingent offer!! I’m so happy! I’ve never been arrested or anything and my credit is very good so I’m super excited! I’m in the southern district- specifically in Florida- but the southern district headquarters is in Dallas, TX. No, I haven't heard anything about start dates being pushed back yet. I'm in the Central district though. It's likely they're doing this according to conditions at the various HQs. The South is a lot worse off than Central

Yes, I thought that might happen. I got a follow up email stating that the OCC is still committed to honoring the job offers so I guess that was everyone’s main concern. We have a little less than 3 months for conditions to improve so that’s a good amount of time I think.

Yeah, it's the travel card. You'll probably get more information about it along with your offer letter. You're not supposed to apply for it until close to the start date.

I plan to submit it today, so it did take me about 3 days of on/off working on it to finish it. It is very in-depth and requires a lot of personal information and references but it’s not especially difficult. Just being thorough takes some time lol

I finally submitted my e-QUIP screening last night lol so I am going to complete the CareerOrientation thing today/tomorrow. I actually just got an email about 30 minutes ago saying that my team is no longer going to the district headquarters for orientation because of social distancing and whatnot. We are going to have orientation in the regular field offices but the start date is still July 20th so that’s good.

Yes I did get that email as well. I also thought it would take longer but I think that they are still conducting the background check. It’s possible that being granted access is only the first step if that makes sense.

I agree, I think that's just a interim approval while they do the background investigation, but I could be wrong... I still haven't received notice of orientation moving to field office but I'm sure based on both of your experiences I'll be doing the same as well.

Do you guys know when we're supposed to apply for the Travel Card? Since everything got pushed back one month, do we just apply for it one month later from the original due date?

I was told that the travel card application needs to be completed no later than June 15th. That was in my offer letter I received at the beginning of May. I have already submitted my application.

My application status did change to "referred" but I think that means we were deemed eligible and invited to the office visit (Not 100% positive.) Not sure if this helps but I applied in the NE district and was told that If selected I would either train in NY or Chicago. When I received the offer they informed me I was going to train in NY.

I have not hear anything yet for the SE regions and the credit report is not reflecting any credit check; I guess at this point I did not make the cut. The US jobs did change from received to referred but as it was mentioned above, it is more likely to reflect that we were deemed eligible and were invited to the office. I am surprise that I have not received a letter to let me know I was not selected at least.

If you're concerned about your status you should call or email the main recruiter for your area ans ask for your status. They will let you know what's going on.

My USA Jobs status updated about two weeks after my interview to "referred" but that was the last I heard of anything.

On my Office Visit in NY for the NE district they said everyone in our district will hear by December 18th and if you do not hear you will receive a letter sent out aftet December 18th. Good luck.

What if I want to apply and I want to be a national bank examiner but I had past credit issues with those banks but have settled on that debt and my credit is now clear would I be able to get hired if I pass the interviewing process?

They do run an extensive background check that includes a credit check. I have no definitive answer, but if you are honest about it up front they can tell you whether or not it will be a problem. Good luck.

Hi ANBE, After you pass the tests, when did you get scheduled for the phone interview? For example if you pass the tests on the 1st, did they contact you on the 14th (2 weeks later) for a phone interview on the lets say 28th?

From the time I passed the test to the actual phone interview was about 3 weeks. It took about a week and a half after the phone interview to hear if I would be doing the in-person interview. After that, the in-person interview was about 2 weeks later and I received an offer a week and a half later. Hope this helps and good luck!

I am invited to in-person interview on Nov 18, 2013 and wondering what kind of questions you were asked for final interview on site. Any tips or advices would be greatly appreciated.

The format of the in-person interview is the same as the phone interview: describe the situation, how you reacted, and the outcome. While I can't recall specific questions, I remember over half the questions were from the phone interview. The in-person interviewers are from one of the field offices you chose as a priority. Most of the time it is someone on senior management from the first field office you chose. In my case, the interview was the ADC, Assistant Deputy Comptroller, from my field office (the ADC is the head of the office) and one other person. I do remember questions dealing with ethical dilemmas, working with problematic people, etc. One thing to keep in mind is to not think that because your interview was longer or shorter than someone else's there is a problem. I know some people interviewed for almost an hour and fifteen minutes and I only interviewed for 45 minutes. We both got the job. I only say this because that is what I was worried about at the time. Hi Colleen, From my experience in Chicago, there were about 15 people in my group. However, there was at least 2 groups the day I was there and they had groups come in over a 4 day period. I don't know the size of the other groups but I would think they were about the same as mine.

Hi ANBE, In your group that was offered a position, did the OCC only offered jobs one per office? Or did you have a situation where an office gave job offers to more than 1 inidividual. What about you? Were you the only one that was hired for the office that you applied for?

I know that every field office who was hiring got at least 2 people and in a couple cases 3 people. I know our class has 8 training teams with 5-6 people per team. In my training team, myself and another guy are moving to a different field office while the other 3 are staying in the training team city. I also think they mentioned that they acceptance rate was really high once the offers were given. Something like only 1 or 2 people did not accept the offer.

How did you find out that most people fail the written portion?

The original comment was mine. Sorry it took so long to respond. They don't care what format you use for the written test as long as it accurately and concisely relays all of the requisite information. I personally used a bulleted list with an intro paragraph and a summation paragraph. They do want you to use complete sentences in your bullet points.They will give you sheet of simple writing instructions to use. You don't have to include any ratios or analysis for the written test. They will give you a loan review to summarize. I found out after I was hired that most people fail the written test (about 60%).

My career exploration day is in New York City.

Cns5302 or MSacct, have you heard anything back yet? If so, how long did it take? Do they call you in person or email?

Johnathan12, I have not heard back yet at all. From what I was told at Career Exploration Day, it will be between 2-3 weeks. They call you if they are extending an offer and email if they are not, but they do not send out the rejection emails until all offers are accepted. Let me know if you hear anything.

Right now, the Southern District (Dallas) is hiring the most people. When I was hired (December 2012), Southern District hired 25 people, Northeast District (New York) hired eight. Western District (Denver) hired 13, and Central District (Chicago) hired 11. Over the next 5 years, over 50% of the examiners in Southern District will become eligible for retirement. Southern District is also the largest district by both the number of banks and thrifts supervised and by total assets under supervision. If you don't make it this time, keep trying.
