The answer is 3. I also interviewed here and the question states that you are in a dark room and cant see the socks that you are picking, how many do you need to pick before you are guaranteed to have picked out a pair

In this position, they are looking for book smarts and not for security experts. They do not care if you have IT security experience. They are looking for a person that knows the terms "Due diligence, risk mitigation, ...". A CISSP is great. People with technical skills will have a hard time getting in.
