Case interview: basic business problem (if product X costs Capital One \$4.00 per unit, with a \$800 sunk cost, and we charge X amount of dollars along with a \$10 annual fee, how many do we need to sell to break even, etc). Followed by a longer discussion of more complex problems that the situation might entail.7 AnswersMostly algebra, basic economics, and common sense.total cost= 4x + 800 total income= x^2 + 10x to break even: 4x + 800 = x^2 + 10x solving for x by evaluating the quadratic equation above, x ~= 25.45 To break even, 26 units must be soldWhy is x^2?Show More ResponsesErin - it probably shouldn't be. The Revenue side should be (unit price + 10) * number of units sold. Dapo has assumed that unit price and number of units sold is the same since the letter X is used to describe both variables. That might be correct, but it would be an odd quirk of the question - I'd bet that you can ask what the unit price is.very good if all 3 of you are interviewing, I can get the position. It doesn't say the annual fee is per product, so you have to assume or ask if it is the case, and if not the # of customer and potential customers estimation. And that x^2 Dapo, did you pass the online test? How is it possible to answer this without knowing the selling price per product? # of quantities to sell in order to breakeven depends on how much the selling price per product is? Since the selling price says X, you can sell it for \$790 and breakeven by just selling 1 product (\$790 per product + \$10 annual fee (assuming it's per product)). But I may be misunderstanding the information provided. Any feedback?Actually, to correct the above response, if the selling price for 1 product is \$794 (to cover the cost price of the product itself (\$4) ), only 1 quantity needs to be sold. (\$794 + \$10) = (\$800 + \$4).

One of the questions from the second behavioral interviews: "Tell us about a time (job-related) when you made an unpopular decision, and despite everybody's doubts, your decision turned out to be the right one."3 AnswersUnfortunately, I couldn't answer this question, because at that point, I had never been in a situation like that. This turned out to cost me the job offer I had hoped for.Can you please let me know more about the case studies? Thanks!you know what, if you told them you've never been in such situation, they might just let you tell them a weaker version, like in a campus project, or every doubts in the beginning but you convinced them.

case study: credit card insurance profit per customer cost of mailing \$0.5, response rate 1%, average balance per month \$1000, insurance charges 1% of average balance monthly, customer claim rate 5% (once insured customer files a claim, the balance will be wiped and C1 lose \$1000). Question: profit per customer, graph claim rate vs response rate, graph profit vs response rate and find the response rate for maximum profit (r=1%) 3 AnswersCan you write the profit equation for credit insurance case. Shouldn't it be P = Rev - Cost = x*(1/100)*1000 - x*(y/100)*1000 - 100*0.5 Where x- response rate, y - claims rate (assumption 100 mails sent) How are u getting the response rate for max profit as 1%. Isn't profit always negative here.this case is so common that I've seen it more than 4 times on Glassdoor. Aspirant you are wrong because premiums are paid monthly, while loss is assumed yearly. This has already been a "must case" for analysts interviews. If you are tested on this at year of 2013, 2014 and have no idea how to solve it, shame on you.btw, there is no enough info to determine response rate vs claim rate here. they appears independently in the question. I guess you have to clearly ask for info here.

All 3 case interviews were about CC - was given credit limit, annual APR, avg monthly balance, processing fee, operational cost etc and was asked to find break even point and a bunch of other info. 1 AnswerOne of them was to find the amount of money the bank must have with them to fund a customer's CC whose avg balance is 'X' dollars. Since the cust pays at the end of 2nd month only for the previous month;s expense, on avg, the bank would need 1.5X on average to fund it (The interviewer helped me on this as I found it hard to come up with this answer). apart from that everything else was fine. And do take proper notes on the case questions- they asked me to summarize the bss problem and my answers at the end.

Name a time you had to overcome an obstacle to complete a project.1 AnswerTo be a fair realist about problems, obstacles do come up during projects. It is always best to prepared for an occasion where the proceeding in a project might not go the prescribed way. Academic Projects also fall under the same category and I had an experience where a project member was under performing, infact not performing at all, which significantly impeded the progress of the project. The project expected equal participation from all members of the team. After showing a lot of patience, as the project leader, I took the initiative in communicating clearly with the concerned team member. We assigned him tasks and made him realize how his under performance was not only affecting his grade but also others in the team. Also, we had a back up plan for his under performance. So eventually, we succeeded in tackling the situation and managed to score full points in the course.

Nothing is unexpected, but you need be well prepared in order to show what you got in the way they are expecting.2 AnswersHello, can you please let me know more about your cases? Thanks.Hi, I noticed that your interview took place in September. I am wondering what your working start date is? It's just that the HR told me they decided to give me an offer recently. But I can't work until August and I know their nearest working start date is July.16. Since they do the orientation and training together with a lot of candidates. So I would really appreciate if you could shed some lights on this for me. I am worried that this would prevent me from accepting the offer. Thank you!

Onsite case question were mostly Math based with logical conclusions to be withdrawn Case 1: All bank terms with value were given like %APR , ROI, transaction types etc. and Profit/Loss was asked to calculate. Case2: Call center data with numbers. X number of Call Centers with Y number of employees and their effective time of response for a call in minutes. What is the average of each center, if one employee is dropped off call what should be the level of response. The case interviewer clearly makes you understand the situation with hints. You got to answer the proper numbers with conlusions. Behavioural round is pretty straight forward and like any other HR rounds. There were 10 people interviewed on same day. The process is arranged properly with accommodation and food facility. Cap One did best to make sure the candidates are given proper facility.1 Answerhow is level of response defined?
