How would you deal with an under-performing employee?

I would approach the employee delicately, not in a way to make them feel insecure or incapable, but approach them empathetically pointing out their short comings to see where things might be going wrong and how “we” as a TEAM could try to improve on it. Having a positive conversation can always give you a sense of how that person may be feeling towards that particular task. A negative feeling feeling about the task could be the reason for the lack of enthusiasm... Less

I would coach the employee on how “we” can work together to improve their outlook and output regarding their underperforming. Most employees do not want to be under-performers, so maybe it has something to do with the task or something personal or something else altogether hindering them. When I first started I wasn't good at prioritizing things, but then as time progressed I created a system in which I would allot myself a certain amount of time to work on each task.
