Roofer Job Description

What is a Roofer?

Roofers specialize in the placement, removal and repair of various roofing materials such as asphalt, wood and plastics. Whether they lay roofing on large business buildings in commercial settings or on houses in the private sector, roofers are laborers who often work in hot, sunny conditions. As a roofer, you will use various hand and power tools. You may also clean roofs of debris. Experience working in painting or carpentry may lead you to a career in roofing. Eventually, roofers can gain enough experience to eventually become foremen or roofing business owners.

At minimum, most roofers are required to have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Roofers must be able to work long hours of physical labor, should work well with their hands and should have the ability to bend and climb. Being able to read blueprints and diagrams is necessary to ensure that you can follow instructions on the job. This job also requires the ability to handle extreme heat conditions since work is primarily done in the summer.
