I worked at AKQA full-time (More than a year)

Working at AKQA is like being in the Walking Dead. You never know who's quitting or axed the next week and you'll have a great time discussing about it. Fortunately there's still some great people there since agencies are incestuous and transient by nature. I enjoyed the Machiavellian politics and watching machinations of others into play. Personally I thrive in chaotic environments and the more anarchy the better. Eventually you win the game when you get a paper weight lion on your desk and use it as a conversation piece at the Battery where you convince the SF Tech Elite to hand over some money for the next big "digital" bang.

AKQA is a political environment that undermines the creative innovation they desire the place to be. My advice for creatives is get on stuff you want to work on instead of waiting for leadership or account to figure out job codes. You should look instead at what account you will be on as each are run differently and have their own "culture."
