Steady work. Some ability to move up IF you are in a geographic area where they have a substantial presence. Had a great site supervisor; unfortunately management above his level was not as competent.
Fairly low pay and no benefits unless working 35+ hours. Very little contact with the company itself. All dealings were through an account manager. Very hierarchical and lots of micromanagement. No regular reviews or raises. The policy regarding time off for any reason, sick, personal, etc. is extremely regressive. It is almost impossible to take time off without running the risk of being written up. No paid holidays, either.
Advice to Management
Communicate with hourly employees to give some sense of belonging. Listen to what they have to say instead of simply handing edicts down from on high. Don't micromanage! Give employees regular reviews and at least the opportunity to obtain a raise now and then. I had to be extremely proactive to get my one raise, and nobody else in our office EVER had a raise, including the site supervisor I worked for. Promises were made that it would happen, but they were not kept. Finally, revise your sick time/leave policy! Managers are given holidays, personal time, and sick time, but line staff is expected to just endure. Completely unfair! I had to give 30 days notice to take a day off but was frequently expected to fill in with no advance notice. In general, just be fair and have some consideration for the people doing the actual security work. You demand far more than you are willing to give.
