    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Autodesk full-time (More than 3 years)

Autodesk is a company with strong ethics, and an inspiring vision and mission. The company and most of the people who work for Autodesk seem to genuinely care about making the world a better place through intelligent design. Incredibly innovative and forward thinking in most business lines. CEO is responsive to staff, industry changes and market demands. Good benefits, but not the greatest & it will be increasingly difficult to retain talent as other tech companies double-down on benefits. Limited time off during the year is only (to some extent) supplemented by 6 week paid sabbatical every 4 years. Telecommuting / flexible work location for a lot of positions, which enables good work/life balance if you are diligent in playing your part to maintain balance (it is easy to work 24-7 & vacation days unless you go offline completely).

Many teams even within the same org operate in silos. Very little sharing or communication between groups. Few feedback mechanisms between product and delivery teams, unless forged by individuals ad hoc (with such communication supported by their managers). Constant changes in management and yearly reorgs cause instability and loss of momentum. Recovery periods from reorgs/management shifts are lengthy. For a tech company, internal processes & communication channels are very outdated. Stock prices have decreased dramatically, and so has a substantial part of employee savings. Surprisingly political once you scratch the surface (which helps explain the frequent reorgs).

    Advice to Management

Increase benefits to better align with the current direction of competitors. Increase 401k match & other incentives, especially since stock prices have slid so dramatically. Given the stock decrease over the last 9 months, direct specific earnings calls for employees & formulate a strategy to communicate direction, assuage our fears & give us actions to improve the situation. Unlike the common shareholder, we have the power to try and make a difference...but the message should be more clear & focused than it is during Steve's earnings calls. Hire someone to help formulate plans to diversify the workforce, and who will help promote learning, growth and development.
