The product is market leading. Very much a software engineering driven company. The leadership at the top is very intelligent and has a vision. There really is not another product on the market that can match up in every area.
No focus on sales. No vision for sales. Particularly on the West Coast where the management is unfocused and unprofessional. Management creates a hostile work environment. The inside and outside sales organizations do not function together and are often in competition with each other. The different regions also compete with each other as there are not many clear rules of engagement. The compensation plan is set up so that management is encouraged to swoop in on deals or else they will not get paid. This would be ok except their pay comes directly out of the sales persons portion. Getting technical support is sometimes a challenge and usually involves politics. They are culturally and historically more aligned to inside sales so they really do not know how to manage outside sales or remote workers.
Advice to Management
Hire outside the company for outside sales management. Bring in professionals with experience and allow them to transform the culture. The smart guys at the top need to take more than a passing interest in sales.
