I have been working at BLITZ Agency full-time (More than 3 years)

Let's address something first before I get into my review. Some of the complaints about the agency are "Account" problems, not "Agency" problems. Work/life balance isn't necessarily an "Agency" level problem. Some accounts have great work/life balance. Mine does! The agency as a whole encourages great work/life balance but lets be honest, Blitz isn't a strong agency with lots of clients with high budgets so not all teams are well staffed and occasionally, Blitz needs bad clients to fill out their roster so some teams have poorer experience than others.

So when a review says "Poor work/life balance" or "weak Project Managers", remember that those are "account" issues and not "agency" issues and you might not have these problems. I would hate for you to miss out on an otherwise decent company because you were scared off by an potential experience you might not even have.

Now on to my review...

+ Cool people +
In my experience 99% of the people at Blitz are awesome. They all have wonderful senses of humor. They don't have anyone that is super-sensitive to offensive jokes or that you have to "walk on eggshells" around. This makes for a genuinely fun culture.

+ Lots of Opportunities to hang out+
Blitz feels alot like college where everyone is young at heart and willing to hangout after work. There are lots of cool events that the company throws to get people to get together and have fun together. A lot of agencies do this as well, and there isn't anything about the way Blitz does it that makes them particularly special, but this is worth noting if you care about good culture.

+ Lots of Parking +
This was super important to me. Blitz now had a dedicated parking deck with lots of space. In their old office building in Santa Monica, parking was sparce, and the space were super small, so if you drove an SUV, you were dinging the person next to you to get out of your car. Now, there are tons of spaces an they're wide so I love it.

+Genuine passion for learning and skill expansion+
Blitz really wants you to grow in your role and learn new skills. They have a Lynda.com account and allow you shadow other teams if you're interested in learning new roles.

+The CEO/CXO+
I love the CEO and our CXO. They're chill guys. From reading these reviews you would think that people require all companies be led by some sort of Steve Jobs big idea visionary but I love that Blitz is run by approachable and sociable guys with a solid understanding of what they do.
- Well intentioned-but horribly executed Culture "fixes" -
Instead of focusing all company resources on making excellent creative or being one of the best agencies in the industry, Blitz likes to spend at least some of their executive resources focusing on fixing things that aren't broken. A recent change in the work from home policy now requires you to request permission from your supervisor to work from home, as opposed to the "As long as you're getting things done.." philosophy that many larger agencies have adopted. That's an embarrassing precedent to set because it shows that the agency can't address problems at their core. A). You're hiring professionals with several years of experience. Having them "ask for permission" to work from home implies that you don't trust them to work the way that makes them most efficient. Why would anybody want to work for someone like that? B). If someone works from home, but they are unreachable or aren't doing their work, that needs to be addressed with the individual. Not to mention the irony of a "digital agency for the connected world" having such a policy.
Don't even get me started on the cubicle gates that prevent people from walking through the cubicle rows. Yikes....

- Post-Buyout benefits -
The company was recently bought out by some larger uber-corporation and the new health benefits are garbage. Basically you choose between high premiums or "you can only go to our hospitals" non-sense.

- Post-buyout Process-
Before the buyout, Blitz was alot more agile and flexible with process. Since they've been bought out, the red-tape and formality of all processes is noticeable. It slows things down, not a ton, but it's annoying.

- Lack of impactful campaigns -
Blitz doesn't have a lot of high profile campaigns. They don't do Super Bowl Ads, or do any work that gets press. Their client list is meh and they don't get any big new business wins. The good news is they're more than capable to do so.

BOTTOM LINE:
You may enjoy working here if:
- You like working with genuinely friendly people that you actually would hang out with after work.
- You like companies that think parking spots are important.
- You like companies that care about your skill and knowledge growth.
- You like the formality of "process" in it's various forms.

You may not enjoy working here if:
- You require high profile work in your portfolio.
- You hate lots of formal process
Advice to Management

Keep hiring good people. Stop solving problems that don't exist.
