I have been working at Bain Capital full-time (More than a year)
Great environment. Good pay. If you're dedicated and smart you'll be rewarded. This is not a place to collect a paycheck and fly under the radar. This makes everyone bring their A game. Because of separate business units, there is still a small company feel when dealing with your business. Can be nimble and if you're trusted, you can try new things. Company tries to keep people happy with non monetary benefits as well.
Too much reliance on vendor apps for core business functions. If it helps you make money, you should be building it yourself.
Advice to Management
Let investors invest (they're great at it) and let IT advise them on how to use tech to their advantage. Business wants too much control and result is they impede tech staff and get a subpar product. If IT is allowed to do their job...all will benefit. Companies that can harness tech will excel. The world has changed. Spending millions on buying software and not getting what you expected is a waste of time and money. We could build our own stuff better and for cheaper. You are hiring the best and brightest so you'll get good software tailored specifically to your needs. Software companies try to address the most common needs to broaden their client base. This is low hanging fruit that anybody can do. Your IT staff are the true experts on how to make your life better....let them help you!! Also - the PMO is getting out of control. It's like a jobs program for mediocre IT professionals. We could lose most PMs and save money without missing a beat!
