Fast paced environment, challenging work, poor resourcing of work to development, behind the times in technology.

    * Great "proving ground" to learn the in's and out's of web development. * The pace develops a "think on your feet" mentality. * Your team members are pretty awesome people. * Benefits and pay are outstanding.

    * Resourcing of work to developers from non-technical PMs is greatly flawed. The lack of understanding as to what developers do from a PM perspective doesn't help much either. They were moving toward a more agile approach but that direction was moving slowly. This contributes to very high developer turnover. * The pace inhibits some of the later technologies such as coding standards, code reviews, angular (lack of javascript standards creates a spaghetti-code free for all), unit tests, and build servers to be implemented. Additionally, cutting corners in code can certainly happen to meet an underestimated inflexible timeline. * The most laughable bonus plan. * If production resources are scarce, "work more hour" mandates have occurred in the past.

    Advice to Management

Technical PMs are a giant hole that could bridge that critical gap between development and sales. Move away from your over-the-top reliance on the "utilization" number. Either be a software development shop or an agency OR bring in the "non-profit producing" people to properly bridge that gap. Otherwise, you will just stay in the "average to poor" side in your ability to attract the resource you need the most: quality developers. Move more to an agile approach of development, since waterfall creates a huge "cone of uncertainty" on the realistic-ness of a project's true delivery date.
