Discounts on purchases and customer interactions were great perks of the job.
Unreasonable demands and pressure put on selling the Membership card. Employees often complain about management, when in fact the demands are too high. I understand that if customers stopped purchasing the discount card from Books A million the company would Fail, but still the demands are to high. Senior management takes no responsibility for anything its a big CYA contest. Shady Senior management tactics(your their favorite until you don't meet your goals then its your going to be fired), lack of diversity at the higher levels of management and Corporate office shows in the field and customer base....this is America get with the times. Low pay without a pay-scale or room for promotion...asking for a raise is like asking to be fired. if your looking for a job this is not the place there are plenty of better jobs for more pay without the issues books a million has.
Advice to Management
diversify your staff, you shouldn't have to instruct your General managers to hire people you normally would not. If the Discount card and Magazine Subscription income is the only thing holding the business together, then you don't have a business, you have a Scheme.
