I worked at Booz Allen Hamilton full-time (More than a year)

Lots of attention to appearance, including personal appearance. Timely pay system. Plentiful food at internal events. Not much proposal work. Lite supervision. Connection between out of town employees and the Headquarters in North Virginia are occasional, which is good.

3rd yr. of revenue decline. Seems top heavy and rather political in culture. Promotions and raises unusual, health insurance is fair at best. Client projects are very narrow, but one could learn. Profitability,--from public numbers--seem puny. Few employees seem to own stock. Increasingly, client staff seem to want to be employed here.

    Advice to Management

Slim down middle and top management, esp. principals and the large numbers of VPs and SVPs and the many EVPs. Get partners involved in client jobs, which are often run by sr. consultants and junior associates. "Partners" should have some focus beyond internal business matters. Attend to the range of HR matters, with some energy. . Make the company a learning organization once again--this could be the means to recovery and deserved compensation increases for most employees. Firm is capable of improving its reputation and regaining its prominence, which would please not just employees, but also possibly clients and investors.
