Very little overnight travel. Company Truck.
Very poor treatment of Salesmen. Salesmen were looked down upon by middle and upper managers. Micro managed to death. Unrealistic sales plan. Horrible managers that have no idea how to sell or manage professional salesmen. There plan was to have an unmanageable large amount of tedious REDUNDANT reports. Creating paralysis by analysis. One year my sales goal was doubled. They literally asked me to sell twice as much as the previous year, which went from 1.5 million and ended north of 3 million dollars with no change in territory and i just covered the 1.5 million the previous year. A few years later after firing the other salesman in my office (side note they fired him right before Christmas). they double my territory to an unmanageable level. But get this, they decided I was making too much money at this point. So they cut my commissions to a percentage of a point. They said they would raise my salary to make up for it. Guess what, the commission cut was way bigger than the minuscule salary raise. I had to quit. I could not afford to work there with that drastic a pay cut. Seven years of service. I was the only salesman for most of that time. I kept fifteen to twenty service and support people working, for all of that time. And my reward was a slap in the face, pay cut and not an ounce of respect. Shame on the management that let that happen.
Advice to Management
Learn how to sell before you call yourself a sales manager. You are horrible at treat senior sales professionals with the respect they deserve. got worse when bought out by Terex.
