I have been working at EMC full-time (More than 3 years)
I left a great career in consulting to join this company...they were simply some of the best people that I had ever worked with and it was incredible to come to work everyday. I constantly felt challenged, was given new and different things to do and the company invests in its executives.
The leadership can be hit or miss...they hire a lot of their corporate executive team locally and grow from within which is good and bad. As a result, you have a lot of folks who have never had a passport or aren't very effective at working with global or remote teams but have been with the company for years and their value-add is their network rather than the ability to deliver. And then you have those, who are superlative in their work and ability to engage globally and aren't promoted because they don't live in local area. When I travel, a common complaint I hear is if I lived in Hopkinton, I'd be a VP by now.
Advice to Management
Be less Hopkinton focused and reduce the ranks at the top.
