I have been working at Eastern Illinois University part-time
A few Pros to working in the dining hall is that you get a free meal whenever you work, so if you don't live on campus that can be very beneficial. Another Pro would be their flexible hours so that you can make sure you are still meeting academic obligations.
Cons would be some of the Staff that works in the dining halls. Some cooks can sometimes be very difficult to work with; which makes it uneasy for the Staff to Student interactions.
Advice to Management
My advice to Management is to train the cooks and any other persons on sensitivity and diversity training so that both the various ethnic groups of students that work there as well as the Staff can get along in cohesion while working.
