    Negative Outlook

Erickson Living had a tremendous culture focused on its people and the residents they care for. The mission was amazing and you felt it from throughout the organization. Although the company does not pay competitively, the work itself was rewarding and the family atmosphere made it worthwhile.

About 2-3 years ago new Health Service leadership was brought in at the corporate level. Its truly amazing to see how 2 individuals can destroy the culture of an entire organization. If youve heard the expression ' Never push a loyal person to the point where they no longer care', they managed to do that to an entire branch of the organization that permeated the corporate office through the local communities spread across the country. They did this in three ways: First, they disregarded the valuable input from the experienced people they worked with. If you disagreed with them or suggested alternative approaches, you were immediately shut down and going forward removed from meeting invitations and excluded from discussions. Any feedback about ways to improve the process which they did not agree with was immediately perceived as being negative and a barrier to progress. This might be acceptable if they were strong leaders and knew what they were doing but they havent a clue. Brought to Erickson to open new skilled facilities and business lines such as hospice, home health and therapy departments, they have yet to open a single one successfully. They open one hospice facility in MA which they had to close because the staff quit due to poor corporate leadership and direction. Other planned openings went from delayed to simply cancelled because they could not figure out how to do them successfully. The nursing facilities that they did open were dinged by Medicare for the poor quality of the operations. These corporate "leaders" are very good at pointing fingers at others as to why things fail but its ultimately due to their poor direction. The second reason why they've ruined the organization is because of the way they treat people. They belittle, degrade, and shout at their subordinates. They try to manage through fear and intimidation. When people ask questions to get clarity on new processes that are not well defined, they become defensive and angry and tell people to just do what they say. How people manage to stay in leadership roles behaving this way is amazing. Finally, with an organization whose missions is to serve its residents and be good stewards of their money, its disheartening to see these individuals travel utilizing the residents money to stay at luxury hotels and rent BMW suv when traveling for business. Its unnecessary, wasteful, and inappropriate.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes to what is happening in the health services division. The leaders in place are poisoning the culture what was once a great company.
