I worked at ExactTarget Marketing Cloud as a contractor (Less than a year)
Great product, great people, both the employees and their customers. I learned a lot and had fun. My time there directly resulted in my next amazing career move.
I was hired under the guise of a contract-to-hire but by the time the paperwork was done, the role I was assigned to do had been filled by new FTE headcount. This allowed me to do something entirely different during my six months, but when the contract was up, they didn't have a spot for me (until I announced I wouldn't accept a two month extension because I had accepted a job offer elsewhere then immediately they wanted to make me an offer.) ___________ Several times in December I had to work from the building's lobby (and once from the law firm that shared the floor - they felt sorry for me sitting on the floor) because no one else showed up before 10 am. ___________ The transition to Salesforce has been rocky and Salesforce Marketing Cloud on my resume is useless because I keep getting calls from recruiters who don't understand the distinction.
Advice to Management
Put ExactTarget back into the product name. Be careful about how you integrate into the core Salesforce product - I'm worried about how well the average Salesforce customer (salesperson) appreciates or understands "permission marketing." The business model of the Professional Services group unintentionally nickels-and-dimes its customers and risks making adversaries of its customers. Most customers will be extremely happy with this professional, motivated, smart group. Some will be supremely unhappy.
