As a small firm, and as much as you travel, you get to know your colleagues very well. They tend to practice what they preach, by and large. They meet a real need in the Construction industry. Good brand recognition in the industry.

The company structure is similar to a partnership, where you buy in to become a Principal and make the real money. So as long as you like the people in that group, it can be a good thing. If you dont, well, it cuts both ways. Company success is heavily tied to the industry, so when the construction market suffers, you suffer, too. Not a lot to hedge against. The S&P (sales and production) compensation system has pros and cons - and many cons. It creates a great deal of internal competition for credit, and the credit goes to whoever is more senior, basically, so more junior people have to take it in the shorts for a number of years before they are able to see some benefits in terms of compensation.

    Advice to Management

Get some younger people's input into org structure and compensation models that work better.
