I worked at GXS full-time (More than 3 years)
One of the managers I had here was the best I have ever had, he retired after 36 years of service beginning with GE. We came in as part of a merger and although he never fully understood the operations fully, he worked every day at understanding his employees and the challenges they faced.
Employee outlook was negative the entire time I was there. Initially management announced programs to address concerns but they were never embraced by management. In subsequent years the executive management response was employees who are not having their needs met are not trying hard enough and need to put more effort into providing awareness for managers.
Advice to Management
Upper management should look to their non-management employees rather than taking the stratified approach of talking to only a single level of management down. It's like the old game telephone, the conversation changes entirely by the time if gets to the final destination.
