I have been working at Gate Gourmet full-time (More than 3 years)
Gate gourmet offers food daily, health insurance has good coverage, able to obtain discounts on airline flights for companies that are served by GG, safety shoes are free, various corporate rebates are available as a GG employee. Airline business is always busy and there is always something to learn, do and or work on. Experience is quick to obtain if you apply yourself.
Food is not free, you are charged, health insurance has to be paid for out of your pocket, discounts are hard to get, upper management is scared of those below them that are more knowledgeable, no raise and no bonus. The flavour of the day determines the style of management of the day, Corporate management is clueless as to the true goings on at the unit level with the amount of manipulation and lack of integrity. Union employees are disrespectful and always angry towards management. Vandalism is high and the experience you gain here is not recognized outside of the airline industry.
Advice to Management
A massive change is required at the unit level. Foster team work, integrity and respect in the work place, lead by example not by force of will. Stop the old boy network.
