I have been working at Giant Food Stores full-time (More than 8 years)
You can get a lot of hours if you are a hard worker Most of the co-workers are good people About 3/4 the management staff is reasonable to work for The Job is fairly physical so no need for a gym membership Benefits are pretty good for full-timers Working at Night gives you the whole day to work another job or focus on family There are opportunities if you work like a dog everyday
For the amount of work you do on Night shift the pay is horrible, you are timed to stock aisles and get paid 50 c more than a bagger that has no extraneous tasks to complete or time hack to make. Most of the co-workers you meet are good people but management does a poor job of weeding out the extremely lazy and destructive ones, being on a team where the work is split 80-20 can be irritating to say the least. The company pretends to have good values and heart but it only comes off as phony to anyone who has been there more than a month, the only values they have are dollar signs. The new associates need to be drug tested before they are hired we have a problem with a revolving door of terrible people who are high and on everything under the sun.
Advice to Management
Hold all the associates to the same standards Don't act like you care when its clear you don't it makes it even worse
