I worked at Gibsons Restaurant Group part-time
The restaurant is run by a great general manager- it was a pleasure to work and interview him for a college report. He is very professional, and is a great role model for those looking to pursue a career in food and beverage. It's a beautiful restaurant in a beautiful area, and the food is amazing. I loved working in Downtown Disney in addition. The Boathouse has a great concept, and I love the creativity of the amphicars added to the theme. I met some really great hosts, servers, and chefs in addition that were fun to work with.
One thing I cannot get over is how terrible the rest of the staff was. While being a hostess for six months, I got to witness everything that happens inside. Hosts are rude and think they're better than other hosts, waiters are impatient and are not given equal schedules, and it seemed management did not care about its staff- the host supervisor would daily talk poorly about certain hosts and managers to the "clique" of friends. Some hosts made more money than others, although some experienced hosts made less than hosts with no prior experience. Also, we were promised more than 40 hours, and the most I have ever got a week was 20. There was too much stress and drama at the Boathouse, and the $10/hr was not worth putting up with all of the negativity here.
Advice to Management
Management, learn to be more professional. Take more time into training everyone equally. It is quite sad to see because working here had so much potential. Maybe you will learn that treating their employees better than they do will benefit themselves in the long run. I would love to see the staff grow more positively than when I was there.
