Family friendly environment. Generally very friendly and upbeat employees. While there are not large budgets to put on lavish parties, there is a genuine concern for the employees. The benefits are good and, since it caters to Moms with its products, it similarly caters to a family-focused employees. It's products are very good and, notwithstanding its ill-conceived foray into women's clothing, it tends to focus on what it does well.
Pursuit of niche markets means that there is limited potential to move up. Very social, chatty, organic, intuitive, consensus-driven culture: great for some, terrible for others. Imagine the military.... this is absolutely the exact opposite. As is the case with many retail apparel retailers, if you're not a Merchant or Planner, you're not driving the business and, consequently, you're afforded less organizational focus.
Advice to Management
Stick to children's clothing. Consider making appropriate strategic acquisitions, particulary in this down market when target companies are relatively cheap.
