I worked at IMAX full-time (More than 10 years)
If you're able to self-teach, you'll learn a lot, as you're expected to do everything. That gives you lots of opportunities to learn. People are impressed when you say you work for IMAX.
You're essentially "on call" 24-7 and expected to live for the company. You'll NEVER receive positive feedback no matter how far above and beyond you go. While they brag about how well the company is doing financially they simultaneously are reducing benefits and cutting raises and bonuses for everyone but upper management. It's a company that used to focus on producing the highest quality product in the world, all they care about now is making money for the very top managers, cutting costs and quality everywhere they can.
Advice to Management
Get back to your roots. The IMAX brand isn't ruined yet - but if you don't innovate and offer a truly better movie experience than your competition your long term future is bleak. VALUE your employees - all of them, not just the upper managers. Realize that a work/life balance is essential.
