    I worked at Jefferson Regional Medical Center (Arkansas) full-time (Less than a year)


    Union Pay Scale. Doctors and Nurses that really care about Mental Health. All the hours you want. I was hired part time and routinely worked 12-16 hours overtime per week(meaning 52-56 hours). 20-40 per pay period was not unusual, especially around holidays. $2500 in two weeks for a Nursing Assistant!. Pace is not realistic; but if you are in a bind and really need some cash, the work is available


    Politics. Behavioral health is very "Provincial". They treat you like personal property. Working in another ward is treated badly. If you cover a shift in the Emergency Department, in addition to the Psych Ward; you can guarantee a 30 minute talk with a supervisor discouraging you from doing that again, and grilling you about your dedication to "The Unit" like it is some commando operation. You also risk a UNION GRIEVANCE against you from a co-worker: stating that they should have been offered the shift based on seniority. They will harass you. REVIEW EVERY PAYCHECK thoroughly! They are sloppy. You have 48 hours to file a revision form.(The claim is 3 days in the policy, but it never works becasue of the accountants "Discretion") Make sure that all of your fees and Dues are being properly deducted: You can be terminated for 30 non-payment of dues, happens all the time; then you go back on a re-hire and a 90 day probation, again: making an entry-level pay that is 60% of normal pay. They will jerk you around and give your 1.5 (time-and-a-half) instead of double-time that you are entitled to for e.g. holiday weekend

    Advice to Management

    Change the culture. Make it a goal for the UNIONs and each department to cooperate as if all of the employees actually work for the same Hospital; not like it is a competition for census between cardiac, skilled, intensive, mental, etc .
