I have been working at Liberty Resources full-time (More than 5 years)
Working with the individuals is rewarding to see their lives improve with the staff. Especially the DSP that sacrifice much of their family time to work.
The pay doesn't reflect the time and sacrifice the DSP put into the organization. The CEO and all upper management seem to be getting all the better benefits and higher pay. Liberty has increased what new DSP make but, the DSP that have been there for many years are only making an average of 50 cents higher than a new staff without experience. Health care benefits cost too much. If you have a family, and the Blue Cross PPO plan could cost your family almost half your paycheck bi-monthly. Team moral is low, especially those that work in a behavioral house with lack of leadership that is willing to make the same sacrifices as they expect of their DSP's. Many houses are understaffed in part due to people leaving for jobs that best suit their personal needs, staff that is getting hurt due to the few aggressive individuals and put out on medical leave and the fact that the hiring process takes too long. Many people that I have talked to. It takes over 2 months from the time the application is processed and trainings. If your unemployed, this takes too long and many people have found another job to were they can start within 2 weeks after back grounds and drug testing is completed. Why does it take this organization so long to hire people? Recently there was employee recognition. At a picnic a DSP showed up and a house manager treated her horribly and asked her why was she there. Really? I thought the picnic was for all Liberty Resources employees. Liberty Resources gave us T-Shirts with the Liberty-Resources name on them with the DSP job title but, in trainings we were told not to wear our badges that can be seen because, the individuals that we serve should be out in the community without anyone realizing they are with staff. If your a DSP at an IRA-Your work hours will be evening shifts. If you have young kids, you will be missing out on them growing up. If your a DSP at a Dayhab. You will work Mon-Fri and have Holidays off with your family.You will also be running your car into the ground with minimal reimbursement that doesn't cover the cost of more frequent oil changes, tires, brake wear or spark plugs and wires.
Advice to Management
IF your going to do employee appreciation. Try going to all of your IRA's and show your appreciation to them while they are there. Merit pay raises to all your employees. Look at better insurance plans for your employees that are more affordable to them, matching 401K plans, Christmas Bonuses, Re-estate funds towards getting Christmas presents to the consumers.
