All of the sales tools you could want in this environment. You are provided with a laptop, ipad, wireless card and access to salesforce via laptop or ipad. With the exception of a cel phone you have remote access to every tools you could need. You work from your home and set your own schedule theoretically.
Horrible corporate culture that is masked by the interview process and orientation. You get a very good idea of the true corporate culture during training. In the training environment you will immediately notice that as a field sales representative you are seen as an adversary by the inside sales staff who currently manage the phone sales in the territory you will manage in you DMA. The middle management is totally inept and more than likely has a prior relationship of some sort with upper management from previous positions. Therefore, that iOS where their loyalties will lie. This is in spite of the fact that middle management clearly has no more of an understanding of the sales process than a newly hired employee. It is as if they live in a vacuum and are positioned as nothing more than a brand cheerleader for recruiting purposes. Constantly out positioned by Groupon at every turn. This becomes especially evident in the field when you face the e commerce element and brand awareness of Groupon.
Advice to Management
Train middle managers much better and test them to be sure that they are ready to lead a sales team in the field Ina way that will drive the business forward. Not every person will make it through an intense training program but youll wind up with a much stronger and well prepared team. A seasoned sales professional will spot the inadequacy right away. This will not only lead to a mistrust of the company values but a poor performance at the local level. Refine the mobile app so that it has fresh offers from local merchants as opposed to the deluge of national online marketing merchants. Strategize to create a unique value proposition and brand identity that sets you apart from Groupon. The myth of more upscale buyers has worn thin and merchants are reacting accordingly.
