The volume and nature of the work is challenging, the benefits are very good, the organization does communicate the financial status to all staff, and the pay is fair, in comparison to other similar organizations. The company provides and approves most of my recommendations and requests for resources (outsourcing, technology, etc.). The company has become a lot more metric focused in this calendar year, which is something that has been lacking. The organization is very supportive of staff and respectful of family and personal needs in terms of time off.
At times the decisions made by Senior Management do not match the company vision. Lately, 3 members of Senior Management have left the organization of their own will, which is a major cause of concern. I believe that a lot of opportunities have not been pursued, in terms of potential mergers, and competing head to head with other organizations that serve firefighters.
Advice to Management
Decide who we are going to be and clearly communicate the vision to staff and members.
