I worked at Mesirow Financial full-time
Overall good company culture. There were many events to encourage employee camaraderie and giving back to the local community. In my position, there was a variety of work, increasing in complexity and responsibility over the years. I felt that my job was rewarding. Bonuses were good, raises were okay. Good benefits. Most of the time there was a good sense of interdepartment teamwork.
Depending on who your direct manager or supervisor is, you can be treated like a professional with ownership over your tasks and duties, or you can be micromanaged. Different groups even within the same department had a very different feel, all determined by the manager of that group. For instance, I'd go home at 5:00pm but the people who sat 50 feet away from me would work long hours. And those different subgroups would be at odds with each other. Why can't everyone just work together and see the big picture? There are politics and power struggles. At times I was a sucked in to be a pawn in a bigger plan of upper managers to wield their power over others. Increasing gossip over the years that I worked there. Some managers would just be sneaky and shady - I felt like they had borderline personality disorder that would spill into the workplace. Some condescending managers would make curt and snobby remarks to non-management staff.
