    Neutral Outlook

I worked at MetLife full-time (More than 8 years)

Overall, a good company for work-life balance, in that they do not expect exceptional effort from even high-level performers. In general, expectations for success are modest, so long hours are not expected and are even viewed with some suspicion.

Lack of strategy beyond "cut costs". Management was consistently unable to utilize technology as a business differentiator, so it became all about delivering ho-hum technology for less cost. However, management was frequently penny-wise but pound-foolish, as they were unable to align projects and goals, creating a lot of inefficiency.

    Advice to Management

Please learn to value and reward individual skills and loyalty in the professional staff; skilled technical people are more than just cogs in a machine. Focus on identifying, motivating, and advancing people with real talent and energy, rather than those who 'talk the talk'.
