I have been working at New York Army National Guard part-time (More than 3 years)
The highlight of my time in the Guard was my time as an infantry platoon leader. Close camaraderie and leadership that cared about their men and getting the mission done.
Being on staff with support Soldiers. It's a toxic atmosphere of backbiting careerists who only care about climbing the ladder and will step on anyone to do so. The Army overall is becoming too metrics driven and ignoring the realities of training and leading Soldiers. Also the Army is being destroyed by budget cuts in Washington and a very unfriendly administration. It's not a good time to join.
Advice to Management
Leading people is more than metrics. Your Soldiers and doing the right thing are more important than your career.
