I worked at Old Dominion University part-time (More than 3 years)

Given that ODU is a research-oriented institution, there seemed plenty of opportunities for me to get involved with various projects that fit with my knowledge and skill set. I didn't get the feeling that working as a GRA was treated as cheap labor; quite the contrary, in fact.

Navigating the bureaucracy of the institution can be difficult, especially at the beginning of each new semester. Lots of paperwork and shuffling necessitated a few emails and follow-up phone calls to make sure everything to where it needed to be on time.

    Advice to Management

Maybe work to improve the inter-office communication. Often, it seemed one office wasn't fully aware of what the other was doing when it came to helping GRAs navigate all the administrivia that comes with the job.
