I worked at Out & Equal full-time
If you want material for a business school case study on how NOT to run and lead an organization, then you will enjoy working here.
The ironies of this place are great and sad. It supposedly stands for "workplace equality" but the management and leadership are bullies. Actually, there is no real leadership. It is absent other than the delusional quest for self-glorification and the masquerade of being a great strategic thinker. It's all "emperor with no clothes" and "Wizard of Oz behind the curtain" -- pick your analogy. What's really sad is how people who work here are treated. They are abused. Just consider that executive assistants don't last more than three or four months at a time. We had three come and go the past year. There is also high turnover among the entire staff. All the negative reviews on glassdoor are consistent going back to 2008 and aren't written by the same group of ex-employees. The staff is always turning over every year, so there are dozens and dozens of Out & Equal surviving alumni to report on how bad the place is to work. The one constant over the years is the leadership. This is the root of all the problems. Besides being bullied, people leave because they are disappointed that the organization ends up squandering all the potential it has to do good in the world. People who really want to help LGBT employees and make the organization more than just gala dinners for corporate sponsors are not valued. So they leave to do good work elsewhere.
Advice to Management
Until there is new leadership, Out & Equal will continue to have constant staff turnover. Until corporate sponsors start asking tough questions about how their money is spent, Out & Equal will continue paying its leadership an exorbitant salary with very little return on investment in actually helping achieve LGBT workplace equality.
