I have been working at PetSmart full-time (More than a year)
The people and the pets. The folks at the top try to stress the bigger meaning behind the work we do selling pet supplies, if you can maintain your focus on that, it's a great place to work.
Some policies and practices seem self-defeating and redundantly so. It may just be that since I joined the company amidst a lot of transition, but there are consistently changing ways of doing everything-which stresses the associates out-without addressing the most commonly-mentioned complaints.
Advice to Management
Settle down. I know it's a competitive market right now and you're trying to maximize the value of the company as quickly as possible, but pick a path and stick with it for a bit. While everyone else is scrambling around-focus on what we're good at; namely, developing an understanding of our products through personal experiences, and getting to know the folks who come through our doors sometimes 3 or 4 times a week. Replacing pricing labels for 4 hours doesn't accomplish that.
