I have been working at Phoenix House full-time (Less than a year)

Working with adolescents who are high risk can be very rewarding when they want change. Other CSS staff is amazing and really care about the clients.

Management is a joke and the CSS staff are not treated as though they are human. The management abuses and uses staff until they are so burnt out and exhausted that they don't even care to give a two weeks. Always short staffed and the policy for call outs is ridiculous. If a staff calls out from the next shift than someone from the previous shift is forced to cover it and work 16 hours. Phoenix house also does not believe in giving their employees a break throughout their shifts, or approving time off. What's the point in getting personal time if you can't use it? Management also doesn't care about clients besides the few that they favor. I've seen suicidal clients, i informed their counselor and the counselor blew it off saying they are just wanting attention then meet with their favorite client they have a session with daily. Then the counsellors way of addressing the suicidal client was telling him "it's okay to feel bad sometimes". This place doesn't actually help clients, clients are simply faking the program to get out. It needs more structure and management that cares.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites. Don't forget that your staff are human also and you're not going to keep them if you treat them poorly on top of the awful pay.
