Lot of innovative cool projects happening within the company. Middle management seems to be know what needs to be done.

I saw some earlier posts on R&D and have to agree on how R&D is managed. It is an example of cabal management. There are scenes straight out of "Mad Men" where R&D management carry around cigars all day at work showing their machismo. At the C-Suite level they are relatively clueless on what the issues with R&D are. Senior management has already picked a fall guy/gal and then everybody piles on that person to remain blemish less. Of course that scapegoat is never part of the inner circle. They will systematically build a case where all fingers point to the fall guy/gal. Integrity is very much lacking in these situations. There are some outsourced partners who have godfathers in the company and they could not have a worse performance but somehow they escape blame. Then there are folks who all came from a company in Bothell. Well then you are in an elite class and you can get away with pretty much anything. Your promotions are preordained and bad performance is not a barrier.

    Advice to Management

These things can remain covered up for sometime but it is a matter of time before your true ability to manage is revealed. I hope the C-suite gets to the bottom of what is happening and does not rely on anecdotal information or information fed by senior management. Root-cause is buried and you need to dig deeper.
