The bureaucracy and the constantly changing policies are challenging. Leadership is expected to change roles every three years, so if you have a great manager or terrible one, either way their gone soon enough.
Advice to Management
Current system for technician promotion to management is broken. It's destroying people lives and careers, and ultimately costing the company money. I've seen a half a dozen qualified individuals who were performing at a management level and excelling. They had no way to take that next step without a physical relocation. Some got frustrated and left the company. Some scaled down their performance and gave up on growing the business. Others moved for the company to get a promotion and the strain on their families resulted in divorce and a broken home within a couple years. We stand to benefit incredibly from promotion to management within location, where people have a support system to help them succeed. Though our policy actually allows PTM without a relocation, our management at a plant level refuses to acknowledge it as an option.
