I have been working at R&D Systems full-time (Less than a year)
Leadership is starting to make necessary changes to shake up a stagnant culture that seemed to survive based on limited competition. Seeing positive changes in the areas of technology and cross company collaboration. Great health benefits, an onsite fitness center, and most people are pleasant and easy to work with. Definitely feels like a stable company with leadership at least discussing exciting new ways to grow and offer more opportunities.
Seems to be a rift between staff that liked things the old way vs. some of the newer staff wanting to take the company in new directions. Most processes and personnel utilize inefficient or outdated methodologies for getting things done. Executive leadership need to bring all the staff together more frequently to share the vision and detailed plan to transform the company and increase profit as well as employee satisfaction. The staff with the negative attitudes and resistance to change need to be let go faster and replaced with people that are actually motivated to achieve and have experience working in a high functioning organization. Having no maternity or paternity leave is pathetic and opportunities for work life balance need to be improved. Not being able to take vacation until after six months of employment is also not competitive and an outdated way of thinking. Consider offering bonuses to all levels of employees based on company and individual performance if you want to increase work output.
Advice to Management
Focus on your message and doing a better job of informing the staff of who we are trying to be. Put aside the funds to not only acquire companies but to hire the right staff to fully integrate those companies into a cohesive whole after the acquisition. Have a solid M&A strategy and start to build your culture from all areas including corporate and the small business units. There is a lot that can be learned from the agile new companies we recently acquired. Always put more money into technology as it underpins all gains in efficiency, productivity, and growth.
