I have been working at RBC Capital Markets full-time (More than a year)
RBC has been moving up the Institutional Investor rankings and has been investing in Senior Analysts. The vacation policy is better than many other firms, but actually taking it can be tricky.
There has been an under-investment in junior personnel and that has caused a very high degree of churn among the associate ranks. Many of the technologies and resources are below those available to comparable positions at bulge bracket firms. The company has also become incredibly restrictive on expenses, to the point of greatly inhibiting work and client interactions.
Advice to Management
There should be appropriate pay scaled based on expense of each city - for instance San Francisco is very expensive. Additionally, there should be more opportunities for employees in satellite offices to visit the NYC office to see sales, trading and senior management on a regular basis.
