    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Shawnee County Sheriff full-time (More than 3 years)

Excellent working relationship between Officers and Dispatchers. State of the art equipment and physical working conditions. Exciting and fast paced line of work. Professional atmosphere. Well established and effective training program. Good pay.

Forced overtime. Forced overtime. Forced overtime. The overtime in itself isn't the worst part of the job, but rather that you almost never know when it will occur. It is best to plan on a 60 hour workweek and understand that it is not always concurrent hours. NOT a job for those with a family.

    Advice to Management

Hire qualified personnel. Taxpayers will not be supportive much longer of spending half of a million dollars a year in overtime pay! It IS a tough job to learn and train, but trust your trainers to know who will be successful and who won't. Perhaps create a hiring committee which includes training personnel instead of Captains and Lieutenants who do not work in the role. You have placed too much emphasis on personality and behavior predictability software and overlooked the human element.
