The owner cares about the employees but at the same time has failed to make the difficult decisions required to advance the company at a fault. The "family" claim is false...proceed with caution. There is zero accountability across the corporation and no direction, corporate goals or communication provided by Executive team with zero urgency. If you want a place to stroll in and punch your card this is the place. Exec. team does not know how to evaluate or take calculated risked to improve the longer term position of the company and doesn't know how to lead the corporation to success. I think everyone is crossing their fingers hoping something will change but too afraid to do anything about it. Advancement is based on years of service and not skill or value provided.
Advice to Management
Slow change hasn't worked and will only cause the company, moral and culture to decline even further. Seek major longterm outside help to overhaul everything from the top down. Establish goals and objectives for the company with a strategic outline/timeframe and owners who are accountable. Update company to 2015, overhaul culture, work ethic, employee training, accountability, everything. Communicate everything!
